TheDopp Wrote:Not to speak for Fusion but I believe the point he's making is we've had these threads before (three examples in Game's post) and each of the threads was the same message - we need a lot of changes. And then only one change would come out of a thread, everyone would cheer and the matter was dropped. At least until someone went 'Wait, there was more than just the one thing that got done that needed to be done...' and at which point they decide to make a new thread.
Saying 'oh, the rotation is the best place to start' is wrong. We've done that. That was the outcome of one of those three threads. The fact that a rotation update might be able to happen by the end of the week on one of the servers isn't a solution to the issue this thread is discussing. The maps are not the sole issue. Having new admins on 2fort, PH and Valve1 is not the issue. Not being able to RTV is not the issue. Having empty servers that could be full if their gamemode/theme was changed is not the issue. Fixing one of those things does not fix the community. Having the ability to fix all the things (major to minor), as they come up, in a timely and dynamic fashion is the issue.
It's good input to know the rotation change proposals, new maps, etc for Valve1 and PH (though PH has an active proposal out there for the rotation update already). There's a thread Womb started to track that. This thread isn't about deciding 'Oh, well the rotation on Valve1 is the best place to start' and then focusing on what maps are needed. We have regulars across the three active servers posting in this thread. This is a SourceOP community discussion, not a valve1 discussion.
Again, don't want to speak for Fusion or anyone else though.
Ding, ding, ding! We have a winner!
I don't think we can enact any plans that will benefit all servers and convince gamers
a priori that it's "safe" to come back. That's why I believe that first and foremost admins should be posted and changes introduced gradually, as guests and not permanent features. Testing should occur live (and I think players would like to participate in this kind of thing as they themselves make it happen) and each admin should dutifully respect the communities' wishes if they are also for their own benefit in the long run.
Some notes I'd like to run by: people want to get rid of 2fort altogether. I'm against this. Way back when, I started my TF2 days in a 2fort server before moving to SourceOP. I, as I suspect many others have, found the map to be the most inviting for trial and error and the most welcoming of different styles to be used by the 9 classes as determined by
new players. It isn't as daunting as other maps. It is, as well, a place to simply hang out and pass the time without being the insufferable expert/king of the server. And it is very much active when compared to Valve1.
I have no idea why Goldrush 24/7 died. I remember a jamaican clan keeping that payload moving like the energizer bunny. I think, of the ideas proposed by my betters in this thread, that Goldrush 24/7 should become a general, rotating payload map 24/7. I know Lotus does this (by also limiting how much time and rounds it requires to win) and it works great for them. Though it's pretty much badwater.
Like I said (well, repeated what Dopp said), ultimately, the community should adopt any changes dynamically and I can't think of a better way than give more powers, if temporarily, to community leaders like a certain NZer already mentioned. But I think Valve2 shouldn't become, again, second place for those unable to enter Valve1. We simply don't have the players. The two servers should be recognizably different from each other, with server 2 being the more experimental one, I think.
And prop hunt, I dunno, I don't believe I'm stoned enough to offer an opinion about it.
