Get rid of hlstatsx
#61

One aspect I like about the stats is the list of players you have killed the most. It also shows your K:D ratio against them. I look at this and I see where I can improve.
I see that I have a less than 1:1 ratio against And 1. So, whenever I play against him, I try to go after him more often than not if I see him. Hasn't worked out that way all the time, but its still a good battle when I go up against him.

Well let me toss in my 2 cents...I'll try to be as general as possible cause theres too many aspects to cover at once and I would wind up writing a book. Anyway, overall stats arent a bad thing. They can show a players progress through out the time hes played the game. As TB just finish mentioning you can also track your KD against particular players (which i personally feel isnt accurate in the sense of a true 1v1, due to games diff. classes)

There are certain players (very few) who care more about their stats then the objective. And i can only count them in 1 hand, so for this to be brought about as a big issue im actually a bit surprised. It does get annoying seeing "Jumpinthefire" type 'place' every 14 seconds but who cares? oh wait..some people do sorry Tongue all in all, its pretty harmless due to the small number of people.

p.s. XcTaCy is not a holla back girl

Most of the good players I know play for the scoreboard and the cap. Sourceop's general level of play and the quality of its admins (do most pub servers even bother anymore?) keep us coming back.

I play for the scoreboard and cap too, and at the same time I check my rank every now and then but I don't let it keep me from trying to be as helpful to my team as I can be. And I know those are factors in what keeps people coming back, because the quality of the servers and players is what kept me here since late October of last year. I'm not saying that these servers need hlstatsx by any means. But I assure you hlstatsx plays a small part in grasping people, at least initially, if at no other time.

And hlstatsx isn't just for the players, it gives the server op somewhat valuable information on the servers recent activity history as well. Whether it be what map/what time the server crashed, what map is dropping players or who's on the servers and where they are playing from or even how many unique ID's have joined the server in the last 24 hours, it gives more detailed information than any other site that I know of. For example if I needed to check my server logs for some reason, I use hlstatsx as a reference so I don't have to sift through hundreds of log files trying to find the one pertaining to the issue/event I'm looking for.

The stats do make people play like total wusses. It also makes good players quit quicker when they get stuck on a lousy team. You can't argue against that. It is very frustrating to see a good player bail out in overtime especially.

My opinion is that if you put more emphasis on wins/losses and less on kills/deaths you would get some better game play.

Again there is no one way that will make everyone happy, the thing to consider is, is the individual playing their class as Valve has stated. For example for a demo man to camp a door way with stickies that the enemy must use is that stat whoring? For an engineer to place their sentry in a hard to hit spot covering an objective is that stat whoring? For a sniper to stay towards the rear of the group shooting over teammates heads utalizing the only advantage a sniper has which is distance to keep thier team moving foward, is that stat whoring? When a pyro stays back and sweeps the gear for spies and helps cover the snipers or engineers is that stat whoring? When the teams are unbalanced with more skilled players on the other team and the handicapped team camps a point is that stat whoring? Maybe the solution is not teaming up with stat whores, on the next map even if it means you may loose, draw some satisfaction from preventing the stat whore from accomplishing thier goal by always being in thier face, shooting at them before anyone else. Run past the medic and kill the stat whore. Truth be told only YOU can prevent stat whoring.
