Get rid of hlstatsx
#41

xCsTaCy Wrote:I don't see the problem here. If an individual wants to spend his or her time accumulating points for the sake of rank, then let them. If their enjoyment comes from being number one on a stat board, then why take that away from them? Does it infuriate you to no end when someone enjoys flaunting about it?

How exactly does a ranking system negatively influence someones gameplay? If the goal is to be the best, then is that negative? Who is to judge what "negatively" influences the way someone plays? If I started to play differently in order to obtain a higher rank, does that I am being influenced in a negative way? If the issue here is about team play, then you'll always have people like that. I don't see this as an issue unless the individual is hacking in order to obtain a higher rank.

Personally, stats mean nothing to me since there is nothing for me to gain. I don't get pleasure from being number one on the server or having a great kd ratio, even though I may have had those at one point. Everyone may have their own reasons for playing the game, whether it's for fun or to be number one on a stat board. There will always be people who play the way they play, no matter the reason.
You're under the assumption that the stats are perfect, they aren't. The scoreboard is 'perfect' because it tells you how good you are then and there, which is all that matters. The current stats don't do that at all. Like And 1 posted earlier, the stats don't reward a playing style that is good for the team and the stats can reward turtling. Teamwork is very important in Team Fortress 2 so it's important that people on your team play properly... if some people aren't willing to take some risks and kick some ass because they're so afraid to lose those 25 points from a dreaded newcomer it could hurt the team.

I'm just sayin'. Hlstatsx doesn't improve anything, it makes things worse.

Stats are capable of making individuals become smarter and skilled. If the player has the determination to do well so they can achieve that rank, then they will do it. Stats are only a fraction of factors that can affect game play.

People complain when my clan mates and I go on the same team together. They call us team stackers since they think we make the skill level of the teams "unbalanced." How do you think this affects the game for both sides? Is it fair to call us team stackers when we work so well together? This is a factor that can affect the game in whoevers favor.

Of course. You are distracted from the game at hand, distracted from the round you're playing on whatever map with whatever team and focus on stats. If you even pay the slighest attention to the rank system, your playing style is affected negatively.

Of course, but hlstatsx has no good reason to be here and causes problems for no real reason. It doesn't make things fun for the majority of players because their ranks are so low. Besides that, the ranks of low ranked players aren't even accurate. At all.

That's another problem or concern that arises with this whole hlstatsx thing... but does adding hlstatsx, an inaccurate ranking system, really warrant these kind problems?

I don't believe I was assuming that the stats are perfect in my post. I'm saying that people can do as they wish. I am not disagreeing that teamwork is an important factor. You may have your own beliefs on how the game should be played, but those beliefs do not have to hold true for other people.

Honestly, I think the stats are a waste of time. If people want to waste their time, then by all means, go ahead.

Stats don't motivate players more than scoreboards motivate players, IMO. People who really want to be the best want to be the best then and there, not 'overal' best player or something in some sort of (flawed) rank system.

Yeah I can understand why you want to join your teammates. Honestly, when I see a lot of big name players on the enemy team, I still think the no name teamplayers team (that I happen to be on) can still defeat the big name players because if you work together properly you can take anything down... it's all about teamwork, not necessarily skills in killing people. The only reason why I'd join a team with people who are familiar to me is that I know that with those people I can work together properly and that they also communicate to the rest of the team which is really important.

Yeah, I can see what you're saying. But why I want to get rid of the stats is because, I think, it makes the game less fun to play. I'm sensitive to people who turtle... And I certainly don't enjoy seeing players not take risks simply because of those stats. I understand why you think it's their business, not yours, but their game affects my game, especially if they're on my team. When I play Team Fortress 2, I want a proper, fun game. When I get on SourceOP's server, I want to see a fucking warzone, not a tea party in both bases. So this has to do with what I like and what I enjoy in a game.

You frame your original post in a way to make it seem like anyone who tries to go for a high rank is playing negatively. I could become a stat whore if I wanted to and still help out the team. Just because I care about my stats doesn't mean I am not an asset to my team.

How does hlstatsx has no good reason to be here? It gives people information about their stats, whether or not it's useful or accurate. If the majority of players aren't having fun because of a ranking system, then I don't know what to say.

You could still be an asset to your team... but you'd be a stat whore and helpful to your team, as opposed to being solely helpful to your team. That's not a good thing. Even if you're being 1% stat whore and 99% helpful, I'd prefer 100% helpful.

Statistics that aren't useful or accurate are completely useless. As opposed to a scoreboard. I mean when it says how many kills you got in a particular game... I'd say that's mighty useful. Inaccurate stats like hlstatsx have no good reason to be there at all.

I am having fun even with that ranking system, but I post here on SourceOP often to come up with suggestions and stuff to make things more fun, and I view this thread as one of those suggestions. I really do think that things would be more fun without stats. Any kind of distraction is a bad thing.

but your considering people are as incaplable as you, i can play the game, watch tv and make dinner and still do all 3 well.
just because it distracts you don't mean it distracts everyone, and in my opinion, stat whores are as good at team work as the rest of you noobs, if not better
