Why would they rather have NO sourceop rather than a possibly buggy one? All you are doing by not releasing it is making people ignore it harder, which I thought was a brilliant feat.
And if it does bug, crash, lag, manufacture biological weapons, explode THAN HELL, maybe we will get some new forum members, and perhaps you could just put a BETA tag on it and use it to get feedback on the errors, and diagnose more bugs than you could possibly fix yourself... just a thought.
By the way, making something harder to use isn't a bad thing, it filters out morons. And if we release a buggy hard-to-use version all we will have left is smart people, and therefore will have upgraded our fanbase.
