Ever though I'm relatively new to the server, i hope my opinion means something. I think the server is dying more or less, because when i check people are on a lot less often. I personally blame the map rotation, whenever i come down to play TF2 every once in a while I always start really liking it again...then a crappy map comes up...Anyway i think something needs to be done in order for the server to regain some people.
1) Move the vote buttons from 1 and 2 to F1 and F2, hopefully this should be easy and most everyone should agree.
2) I think if people don't vote, they shouldn't be counted in the vote, this should also be easy (I think), and I think it would help a little in keeping crappy maps out, while not really being a major change
3) RTV... but only if half the server votes for it, and only regulars can vote (people with 5 or more days/have a reserved slot) and this system could easily be refined its just an idea.
4)Maybe a nomination system like one of the Reddit servers, i don't play there often (but i would because of the nocrit...) because of the pings, but a nomination system combined with a rotation would be a good idea. Ex. There is a certain rotation, could even be the same one we have but with 3 possible nextmaps, and then people can nominate 3 other maps to be voted for. (this could also be a way to add custom maps without forcing them on anyone)

Once again, these are all just brainstorms that should be thought out some more before implemented. Though i think these ideas are better than just giving a few people certain admin privileges.

Though sadly the problem doesn't seem to be a lack of ideas, seems more like DF just isn't responding to any suggestions to save the server...

Also i agree the shit out of you Womb, Engineers are the scum of the earth that ruin maps that would otherwise be enjoyable. (KOTH badlands, KOTH Viaduct, KOTH Sawmill, KOTH Nucleus, KOTH Harvest, as well as others that dont ruin it quite as much, but still make playing the game unenjoyable...)

And one last thing, where is nightfall? I've played it like once on another server and i thought it was a custom map lol.

The people who don't vote aren't counted. As for nightfall I believe it was taken out of the rotation because it either crashed the server or broke the SOP plugin.

I've been around long enough that I figure I should throw my hat in here (even if everyone keeps getting me confused with Matador even though *I* had this name first). I'd like to see F1 and F2 be the vote keys as well (or 4-5, whatever) and would like to see modifications to the maplist. My personal favorite to remove would be koth_nucleus as it just turns overly spammy with 16v16. Dustbowl is hit or miss, sometimes it's way too spammy and sometimes it's okay, the same with Barnblitz.

Anyways I still both like and hate the server, so I'll probably stay around no matter what, but would also like to see some rotation changes. I don't think we need any new admins because I prefer the climate where nobody can just run to the admins (even if it's to change a map).

Womb don't ask me how you ever got admin here. As an admin you are meant to be helpful and understanding of what the community wants because they help donate and fill servers. Your post have almost all but been negative instead of trying to be helpful.


On point now. Certain maps need to be removed and the voting system needs an overhaul. I enjoy SourceOP because the people who play here aren't terrible at TF2. I agree that no one needs admin to change maps because if the voting system is fixed than the majority rules, but as it stands now 75 can vote to skip and it still plays the map. That is just wrong and needs to be fixed.

Maybe this community needs to expand the power to fix problems such as this, to people who have time and play on the servers. For this I would say Fusion because he is the one I see most often. Or at least to someone who can read the forums and listen to the people who have spend 50+ or have donated days on the servers.

Customs maps, in my opinion, do not kill maps. If the map is garbage than it will kill the server regardless of if it is custom or not. Sawmill CTF is a perfect example. No one likes that map because the Intel is such a cluster fuck that its almost impossible to get in if the other team is remotely defending. You can blame engineers but most guns can be knocked out without ubers by a few players.

Dopp makes some really good points about taking down the servers that sit empty and replacing them with mods that are popular. Dodgeball is great for people who want to learn to airblast or just watching pyro's getting hit by crit rockets.

People have been saying CSS is dying but people still play that game for fun. That means they could walk into Sourceop, get addicted again, and come back to be a regular playing on the server when they have time. Free to play will keep the game alive for a long time.

No one is saying there going to get it right there saying that the server needs changing and adding to and modifying. And it probably may need to be changing again. Fusion is a perfectly great admin that is happy to help why not give him the ability to do it if he wants to. Having a stock valve server wont mean shit if were all playing at no heros or lotus clan and the server is empty all the time like number 2 and gold rush.

If a new map is shit and your playing it as an admin Jesus Christ delete it and try another one why is this so difficult a concept to understand again play here more and you'll almost instantly know if it plays well or not with 32 players - but i find it hard to believe that out of 6 maps that i suggested or qwo or who ever all of them will play worse than junction with 32 players. Therefore if one of them plays better than junction delete junction and keep the new one come on its not rocket science really? Again its going to require and admin that plays here all the time

I have asked fusion about changing maps and he has said no problem other wise i wouldn't bother him df has also told me that its fine if hes available and both have thanked us for trying to keep the server populated. And your not the one that actively try's filling the server every day to get a game going so most often that is why we ask for map change people wont come for shit maps. But feel free to arrive on an empty server like we do and populate it with all your friends so we don't always have to do it all the time. Play here more often and you'll get a feel for the server and the people that play here.

and custom map problems aren't just my personal fucking opinion, it was said by DF in another thread along the same vein as this one. so holy shit get off my nuts about custom maps and just accept that they actually DO reduce server traffic.

WombRaider should not be admin. An admin should be there to police, and support the community. He'd rather sit there and watch the server die than change a map......make sense to you?

I've admin'd (rcon, therefore trusted!) for a couple (now defunct) lively communities (some of those members now play here) and know what it takes. He's just ineffective at his job, thus, redundant, in my opinion of course.

Fusion on the other hand? He cares. He helps. He's polite. He actually plays frequently!! *coughWombRaidercough* He is a true admin by all definitions in my book.

Hey, if those who control this don't want to do anything, just say so. There is already discussion going on about finding new racks to hang our hats on. Though I'll admit I'd hate for it to come to that! It just seems to be the way it's headed. *sad face*

But what does my opinion matter? I've only spent 95+ days of my life on SOP servers. *shrug* (or 110 days depending which way you check.)
