BBQ'em for Admin...
#11

...to the point where I don't think it has regulars, admin or not.

It does have regulars, we've just lost interest in the server over the past few months (myself included)... I used to send invites to folks and get games going, and the game would be intense (good team play, not newbies dicking around) for a good amount of time.... However when 6 regs log in and start dicking around, another 16 follow suit with 10 new players... The only reason it's had the traffic it's had is because of its regs.

I already know you don't like the server and want it to be a instant spawn server, but not everyone enjoys that style of play... There's no penalty for getting killed.

The reason for this thread is because we all have an interest in getting it going again, but there's no point without an admin that actually plays on it.

mooks Wrote:We've had a few full games on SourceOP 2Fort in the last few weeks ONLY with the help of BBQ getting invites out there, bringing in a mixture of old and new players. I actually had to wait on auto-join. With more active admins, especially adding BBQ to the team, I think you would definitely see a rise in players.

He's a solid candidate if you're looking for more admins. Just yesterday I was playing with him and someone he helped learn the game recognised him and thanked him for teaching them a lot of tricks of the game more than a couple years ago, on SourceOP 2Fort nonetheless. Any game he joins, more than a few are sure to follow.

This.

It was a busy server about 9 months to a year ago, then people trolling and starting problems pretty much killed it... It's a rare server (not a lot of servers play default spawn times anymore & play 32), so we'd like it to stay... Admins help build the brand of the server though. I did it when I started admining on a server that had great potential and no regulars.... Over time it became the largest CS:S server that would actually play 64-players.

In hindsight, I realized I could have fixed some of the traffic drop-off issues by giving more level-headed players admin rights... At the time I didn't think about this as a solution.... Not to mention people tend to get games going on servers which they have power...

It appears the previous answer was a clear no, but are you guys willing to reconsider?

MikeV needs to be admin on 2fort insta. The guy is always on. He usually gets a hold of me when there are hackers on the server running a muck.

The NoBS 2Fort server is rarely populated (~3 hour window of ~20 players per day for the last week or so; the rest of February not so much), to the point where I don't think it has regulars, admin or not.

Well, it sounds like giving him admin rights on an unused server probably doesn't have much downside risk. But there's a lot of upside to giving admin rights to a well respected veteran who gets together 40 players weekly for events, and has a constant and active friends list of 300 players.

Doooo eeeehhht.

Newb-bbq is an honest player who can spot a troll when he wants to. I think he'd be a good choice.

The only time there are people on the 2fort No Mods No BS server is when bbq starts a game up. Without bbq you guys may as well get rid of the server.

I'm not saying this just because we're both in dBs. It's just the truth.

I don't see why you guys can't give bbq admin rights for the server on a trial basis. If he messes up (which I don't think he will) then strip the rights away. Simple as that.

Of course you guys could just make it a second 2fort instant respawn server, cause ya know, that's what TF2 needs. Yet ANOTHER boring instant respawn server that has zero teamwork going on.

I don't usually post in forums but I have to give my full support to bbq'em. He's one of the friendliest, fairest, and most respectable people I have met in TF2. He's very passionate about the game and actively tries to organize events and fill servers up. I hope you give him an opportunity, which in my opinion would be very well-deserved.

Here in lies the problem. When you have a large micro management situations like this. The Admins will generally refuse to give up any of "their power"... (as it is clearly stated by the admins in this thread) and it is usually damn near impossible to contact ANY ADMINISTRATOR. Even when I use to idle in MIRC in their SOP channel with DF, same thing nothing but dead air, kind of like the SOP ADMINS in general. I even have SOP Admins on my friends list, still dead air.

The Instant Respawn 2Fort server is pretty much always packed and far from boring. There's more need for an admin on there than the No Mods No BS server for the fact it's constantly populated with people other than the normal vets that play.

Then you havent tried contacting any lately. Butane, Fusion, Womb and I (I can't speak to Petey, Sky or EggBanjo) are all prompt in responding when we're online. When we're not, use the Contact Admin form (which I've personally responded to each of the ~4 used this week on 2fort Insta alone).

This isn't about "giving up power". We don't have a set amount of energon cubes here, and adding a new admin means Butane has to give up a few. Womb won't have to sit out of our inter-mural curling championship match because we have to play the new admin at least one game per rule 4.s3.a.1. A new admin just exists, able to reduce the amount of issues the other admins have to deal with on any given server (in this case 2fort nomod), which means less work for everyone, which means a good thing.

In my eyes (and this is just my opinion, not that of the rest of the admin staff) it's an empty server, and empty servers don't need admins. There's no work to be shared. There's no 'the admins on this server suck, they never respond to issues' because there are no issues. There's nothing an admin can add to make that server not empty (if it was a server with a rotation, sure, they can change maps). If the server was populated, sure, I would personally think maybe regular should be bumped to admin. It just has to get populated for more than 3 hours a day though.

The point I raised in the 'Shut down the servers' thread stands. This is not Valvemaps #1 where a rotation change can breathe new life into it, and not Insta where another admin might help matters. NoMod needs to change to a different game type to become populated (MGE, a CTF rotation, whatever).

tl;dr:
