There was only ever one game that I felt was absolute great 'Horror' game meaning it actually made me feel uneasy. That was Fatal Frame. I've been considering Amnesia as it seems like it could be interesting but I doubt I'll get it since it seems like it'll end up emotionless like most other 'Horror' games.
Oh gee, somethings chasing me ::kick feet up:: think I'll run/kill it/die. Hrm so spooky.
(And I mean games with a true intent to try and scare the player)

When I first played Bioshock it was like 1 am, and I was playing with the sound way up. The opening hours were rather scary. Oddly enough I was never scared the rest of the game.

I was uneasy at DOOM3, but that was because the graphics were so bad compared to Half Life 2 and the fact that everybody said that DOOM3 was as good as HL2 made me physically ill.

The first hour of Bioshock 1 was also scary to me, but the rest of the game it really dies down. But I have to say that DeadSpace kind of freaked me out the whole time I was playing it.

Fatal Frame was pretty good in making you feel uneasy. Silent Hill 2 was fantastic in the mindfuck as well.

oh and I haven't actually played it, but watching videos of heavy rain was pretty suspenseful.

Heavy rain was good and dead space was just a bunch of popout scares which got old quickly. It was the haunted house of video games.
