Amnesia the dark descent
#11

No left 4 dead 2 was a shameless clone of left 4 dead.(which I have said multiple times). And world of warcraft uses the same backgrounds and mechanics over and over again. Also these are sequels meaning they are very likely to follow the same design. It's the new things you bring to the table that separates them.

Which doesn't address the point that ambiance =/= genre.

And the only real thing that separates the two 'genres' survival horror and adventure are ambiance.

Therefore 'survival horror' isn't a real genre.

Sure if you want to throw creativity, style and pretty much everything that makes a game unique out the window. All of which you probably won't pickup on a game you haven't paid any mind to. Setting decides the overall feel of anything. It's also a sub genre so there are going to be a lot of similarities, this is again saying fps a is the same as fps b because it's an fps.

You are talking about style and creativity on Penumbra?

Play a real adventure game like Grim Fandango or the Monkey Island series if you want style and creativity.

Amnesia, edited post btw. Also comparing any adventure game to those two isn't even fair.

The fact remains that in nine cases out of ten they still take a mediocre adventure game and put scary imigary everywhere to try and pass it off as good.

I couldn't ever stand a survival horror game that couldn't stand on its own as a normal adventure game.

It's not fucking grim fandango but it's not bad imo. Either way you couldn't judge this without playing it or at least watching some gameplay and I do believe there's a demo if you aren't willing to simply pirate.(and it's still more about good immersion and horror than anything else).

The gameplay is pretty lulzy.

do you actually get feelings of "uneasiness" or get scared when you play video games or watch movies?

i mean, i jump like any other person when some shit jumps out at you, and i cringe whenever i see two dudes going at it, but i've yet to be scared or shocked by any game or movie

The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth becomes the greatest enemy of the State.

Also it depends entirely on the game for me, amnesia has yet to really scare me but it's still unsettling. Which is something considering most "horror" games don't even get that far
