		No people would catch on, extend the vote to a 1 minute timespan and leave a message at the bottom of the screen that sais type !vote to vote for the next map.

The true American way is to be as lazy as possible.  Leaving it as it is fulfills this axiom (DF doesn't do anything and people don't have to actively try to vote).  The only real way to improve its American-ness is to find a way to deep fry it.
