The scoreboard reflects player points (kills per round) and team score (captures). These are non-persistent points and to my knowledge, no-one has ever been called a kill/cap-whore.

and yet i have seen countless snipers being called stat whores for only sniping entire rounds, theres always gona be people playing for the highest personal score steping over there team to do so

They couldn't be called that if there were no stats could they. And we all know (maybe you do it, or did it?) the type that really fits the bill. The type that will disconnect if they lose too many points or plays offense until they start to worry they might not increase enough (or actually lose points).
Pretending you don't know makes me think either you just like to argue arbitrary points. I don't think I've seen you in game so for all I know my you're into it too? session_date

No. What Ret is saying is that even without stats, snipers get called point whores because some people feel that they're just snipping to get a high point total on the scoreboard without really advancing the team's position in the game. The point is that even without stats there will still be point whores and there will be people who complain about them whether they deserve it or not.
The only real problem exists in players who constantly build/destroy just to earn points, but that has been taken care of. Beyond that it's easer to argue that achievements ruin the game more than stats do (not my personal opinion, but I'd say there is more of a case for that than for stats).[/i]

Not to pick a fight but as i have stated there are players on this server that when they play a specific class it is going to be a long afternoon for the other team. I will use myself as an example on goldrush last night the teams were slightly out of balance and not in my teams favor, so as always i picked up a sniper rifle. Now i consider myself to be an excellent sniper, and when the map started we had 4 snipers including myself, as the map progressed, through attrition 2 snipers changed class, we fought a tough battle and prevented a better team from capping the last point. When the map ended i was number 2 in the scores overall and number 1 on my team (56k-24d), i sniped the entire map only because i felt it was in the best interest of my team to keep sniping. Now am i a stat whore because i felt that it was in the best interest of my team to keep that kind of fire power in play? I do not and no one on my team complained either. In the end as far as i was concerned the only thing that mattered was accomplished, and that was preventing the other team from capping the point, the stats for myself after the map were just a small foot note as far as i was concerned. Just because someone picks a class they are good at, does thier best to complete the mission, and supports the people in front or next to them is not stat whoring, that is just solid play

I'm not sure I buy into the argument that leveling stats has no impact that points alone doesn't have already. In fact I know better.
I guess what's important is that there are enough players willing to play to make a difference. The way I see it people using trainers to bot are the biggest problem and all those WoW stats grinders are simply a by-line, but certainly worth mocking.
And Asai, I'm always thankful when a good player knows what to do and where to fill out, snipers included.

dude i'm only care about those who really want to help the team, thats why a change classes several times a match in order to make up for my teams weaknesses
but snipers seem only content on getting kills, most snipers i have played whit are almost incapable of anything but sniping, and are only able to give limited support for there are only a few places on most maps where sniping can be effective, snipers are defensive support units, their useless in a rush and are imposable to coordinate with, in fact in maps like 2fort the entire battle can be decided outside the coverage of snipers
also i'm not to fond of the fact snipers get an insane boost from lag, i mean as a pyro i can't seem to hit a guy right in front of me even thought i'm burning threw there body, and here a sniper can head shot a scout doing erratic maneuvers in one try :roll:

Wtf, I'm amazed this thread is still alive.
I stopped giving a shit about stats ever since I realized that all the pros basically stopped playing on the Valve maps server... stats are the least of my concerns now.
I do want 'hlx_display 0' to be permanent though, it's annoying to type it down everytime.
