I rarely have extra money laying around, but still manage to have a nice computer. No, my parents don't contribute anything to this mix, I have payed for everything here out of my pocket.

When I made the statement that I did it on under 500$ people accused me of buying from shady outfits such as Cyberpower, I first want to list the parts I bought and their prices, which is a very good template for a new rig:

140$ Nforce 680
25$ Geforce 8600
150$ core2 quad 6600
150$ Thermaltake armor
25$ for bright blue cathode lights(which I didn't count in my pricing because they were unnecessary)
Existing ram (you can get good ram for a single gpu setup for 40$)
Existing hard drives (80-gig 3gb/s satas are only 20-30$ anyway)
Existing power supply (again, not that much money, 50$ at most for single gpu)

so that is a good setup, including the stuff I scrapped from my old rig it will come out to about 600$. This also gives you a higher-end motherboard so you can proceed to upgrade gradually, like I added a 500gig sata drive, am upgrading my ram and gpu, and then I will get a new power supply and SLI two 8800's (because 9800's are the SAME THING).

it is all fairly inexpensive

If you really want to be cheap you can take off 300$ and get a 40$ motherboard and a 50$ case, and pick up a Pentium D for 50$ on ebay.

the key to building a great rig on a budget is using shit from your old rig to compensate for price and when to buy cheap shit to fill in for good shit until you can afford good shit. Skimp now, and then buy the high-end crap when you have the money. It is a lot easier to fork out 50-60$ a month in parts than 600$ for a new computer.

It's like leasing a car. You never actually end up with a car that you can keep, but you will always have the latest model. Except for the fact that constantly upgrading a computer you have extra parts lying around that you can build more computers with or sell on eBay.

PS. Post here and I can take the time to help you design a new rig for cheap. Note that most of my parts come from eBay, which is how I get them cheaper. I do not recommend this for most people. I usually stick to newegg when buying computer equipment (trusted place + excellent warranties + return policy), so all of my parts will be listed from NewEgg. Once you know the exact parts you need you are free to bargain shop.

I've been trying to play Tiger Woods Golf 08 and SimCity Societies but I keep having issues with my graphics. Low or High settings doesn't matter and I can't seem to find a fix on the internet.

Here are pictures of what I'm talking about. I'm missing chunks of textures and can't seem to figure out why. I just reinstalled both games today. I have updated drivers and Windows is up to date. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I am running a Nvidia 7300 GT with a Pen 4 3.2 single.

I'm upgrading the kernel and some packages on the linux server and also doing some other maintenance stuff (like compressing and deleting old logs).

While this is going on, Valve Maps #2, Custom Maps, 24/7 Goldrush, and Arena maps will be down. This will probably take an hour or two.
