Since we're on the symbolism causing hate blah blah blah debate, I have but two questions......
1)Why is it the hammer and sickle of the old USSR is never despised like the swastika? Tens of millions of people in Easter Europe were killed(tens of millions more grossly mistreated) by the Soviets/Stalin throughout much of the twentieth century.
2)How about the Rising Sun of Japan? While Japan never engaged in a formal program of genocide like the Germans in the same time period, the Japanese occupation policy was certainly as brutal as the Germans, brutal enough to indirectly cause some 30 million dead in Asia.
Note, don't give me this, "They weren't as bad as the Germans". Ask those whose parents/grandparents lived under Japanese/Soviet rule back in the day. They'll tell you stories that are as brutally oppressive as the Germans, but they're not 'sexy' enough to be made into a Hollywood movie.
