nForce 680i LT Sli & Core2Quad Q6700
#1

ok i know the 680i LT Sli was for OCing the core 2 duo, but it didn't have the power i wanted so i got a quad core, BUT for some reason on certain games it only uses one core, games like crysis and tf2, where i need more then one core
i have cheaked but nvidia and intel with no help what so ever, i was hoping maybe one of you know how to fix this or knew somewhere that might?

You first.

But, to answer your question, games like TF2 weren't designed to take full advantage of multiple cores. Most of the processing is done on a single thread and thus runs on one core. I don't know about Crysis, but it's probably the same.

Developing games to utilize multiple cores is a big challenge. Valve is working on it and I know they have some tasks that are split up and run in parallel on multiple cores.

In order to take full advantage of a quad core machine, the game would have to split itself into at least four processes or threads that may be run in parallel simultaneously. The traditional design of a PC game won't work with this since tasks typically have to be done in order and/or one at a time.

the very first pc game that was designed to take advantage of duo-core processsors is Battlefield hero's.....and its brand new.

to my knowledge that is the very first game that was designed from the beginning of its creation to use dual cores but at this moment there is no game that uses quad core and at this rate it might be a year or more before that happens, there just now making games for duo core...give it some time man the gaming industry isnt able to keep up with new pc technology especially when a new type of cpu and graphics card is coming out every year from places like intel, amd and nividia.....

P.S lol good one Drunken
