half life 2 is one of the best games ever made:
-no better physics engine since or before
-impeccable AI
-mature storyline, blending dystopian and horror elements into a complex science fiction
-constant scenario changes, constant scenery changes, never a dull moment
-gravity gun
The amount thats been accomplished with that game engine amazes me.
But that's just my opinion.

not to mention the shit it had to go through to get made, and having there security jeporadized and STILL being able to release a amazing game.
