map rotation + rant
#1

I never get why people complain about skipping this map or that. The only servers I play on are the no mods/rotation maps because I like the variety.

Granted, sometimes I'm not in the mood for a map, but I always vote 'no' because I think playing the different styles can make me a more rounded player and forces me to try other classes and become proficient as a team player.

And to everyone that says, "If you want to play 2fort, there's a 24/7 server,"...sod off. If you're going to use that logic, then go play the cp/pl rotation so you don't have to worry about ctf. And honestly, I don't like the pacing and culture of any of the 24/7 servers. I play on the valve map servers because I like the other players there (mostly), and they tend to be good sports (mostly). It's a different breed that likes barebones/vanilla play, and they are generally more rounded/team players (mostly).

I'm not opposed to skipping maps, but people really should just relax and not ruin maps for those that really want to play...

...THAT being said, sometimes completely goofing off is appropriate and actually a better time than playing for the objectives.

And for the love of Pete, if two folks are going head-to-head in melee, let them go. Stop taking easy kills, stop catching them on fire. If a scout wants to take on a heavy, let them do it. There's nothing worse than just wanting to have a good fight only to be shot by some asshole wanting another stat, or challenging another player to melee only to be shot in the face--it can be funny, but mostly it's annoying as hell...

Look, just stop dogging people for liking maps. The rotation servers are there for people who like variety, let them have it.

...and I hate it when I'm having a good night as a medic, because it means I have to be medic most of the night :gaga2:

rant = done

Yes, for the same reason some people like skipping "shitty" cp/pl maps.

The reason no one likes 2Fort and Hydro (gross overstatement ahead) is because they've been played, a lot, in the past. I know I'm personally getting sick of Badlands, Goldrush and Steel for that reason.

The reason people don't like 2fort and hydro is because for the most part you're butting heads for 35 minutes while hardly accomplishing anything. Deathmatch tf2 is meh. I get bored when there is no objective to complete that requires teamwork. That's not to say that it's impossible to accomplish your objectives on 2fort, hydro, and ctf_well. But it's so close to being impossible(on 32 man servers anyway) that most of your team just goes off in their own little world and leaves the objective to a minority of the team. At least on turbine you can actually capture the flag sometimes, even when the teams aren't stacked... That's just my take on these "shitty" maps though.

Amen bro.

Hydro is visually stunning and 2fort is a great place to develop new tactics or just get better with your least played classes.

Well everyone has maps they like and maps they don't. I would agree that I see 2fort clear the server most of the time, some people enjoy it.

The problem is that people want to play the stock/standard maps which is why they're there. I would doubt that DF would remove them/change them.

It's the same reason you have people come on and complain about the respawn timers when they're standard. It won't change.

True... And to each his own.

But you can't deny that ctf_well and tc_hydro are the least popular/played default maps. (aside from arena maps)

And I think the only reason 2fort is up near the top is because there are quite a few 24/7 2fort servers. 2fort seemed to have it's own crowd when I had it in the rotation on our clan's pub server. When we went from other default maps to 2fort half of the server would empty out and slowly fill back up. And then when it was time to switch back to another default map most of the people that joined during 2fort would drop. And 2fort seemed to be the only map that had that particular effect on our traffic, so I finally removed it from the rotation.

I don't think that DF should remove these maps because I understand that not everyone feels the same way about said maps. And I think the veto was the best possible solution to the dilemma because the map is only skipped when the majority of the server feels that it should be skipped. If a few people don't vote, it fails and goes to the next map anyway. Seems fair to me.

The maps should stay in to keep the player "pool" fresh. If alot of people drop on 2fort well there is usually a mile long line to get into the SOP servers... This way you hit the big refresh button and new people come in so you aren't always playing against the same people.
