fast download help
#1

Ok i want to enable fast dloading on my servers

I got this bit from a mani tutorial, and need some translations lol.

"To enable Fastdownload you need to add this into your server.cfg

sv_downloadurl "YourWebspaceUrl/cssdownloads"

Then upload your files to the gameserver. Now log in to your webspace via FTP.

Create a folder named "cssdownloads" (without "") and in this folder you create the subfolders maps, materials, sound, etc.

Now you need to bzip all your files for your webspace.

If you're using Windows as your OS at Home (Server hasn't to be windows), use the BZIP Compression Batch , simply Drag & Drop some files on the batch file (not to much files on the same time, every time about 5 files max), if you're using Linux, find some Package Tool that can compress files into the Bzip Format or use the console commands.

Now, after all your files have the .bz2 Extension, upload them to your webspace, restart your server and your server should now use the webspace for downloads.

There's also a tool available called CSRSC (Counter Strike Redirect Server Checker) for automaticly comparing the files and uploading them.
"

Your webspace FTP is where all your website files are kept.
For bzip download bzip2.
Webspace....is the amount of space your web hosting provider has given you.

yahoo.com is your friend. =/

ive found that personally, forums are much friendlier and EASIER than any search engines. Search engines don't have feelings Cry

OK so my webspace, is just the website, i use to log into my FTP , ahhh, that explains alot. youll never know how much the simple answers help me sometimes Wink

thanks naqqy poo

ONE MORE THING!!!

a friend told me this the other day

"when adding maps, you need to upload them to another web space locate ELSEWHERE. And these uploaded files must be in a bzip2 format. The purpose of this is, instead of transferring the custom maps from the battlescores server to a connecting client, which, kills bandwidth and takes ages to download, the custom maps are stored in a separate server, running on a separate connection allowing a very fast download"

he said some other stuff, making it sound like i already have a seperate webspace??? so do i have to fo find another webspace to host files?!?!?!
im confused??

He sent me the link to that mani tutorial I posted earlier.

So what do yall think from experience? Is he right? is this a good idea?

yes you need two server directories for fast downloading. Normal bsp maps on one and bz2 maps on the other.

?????

The srcds server needs normal bsp maps in its map directory so that it can load the map. In the cssdownload\maps directory you need bz2. You can put bsp's in there, and it will work, it just will take more space (and thus more bandwidth and time spent by players downloading) since they aren't compressed.
