Today I was playing on maps2 having a grand old time with nerds around the globe when a message pops up on the text screen by Versed.

I was pleasantly surprised he got admin since I know he's been a part of source for a while, but what he said was disturbing.

He said there should not be chat unless it was related to the gaming at hand.

Granted, we had an annoying fucktard screaming into the mic and he promptly kicked him which was great... but saying we should only be chatting about the game? Fuck that.

I don't play sourceop servers to hear "spy behind me" and "sentry on the right" and pure silence. I always come back to source because of you crazy geeks that play and talk about dumb shit.

So, being the dick I was, I started trolling Versed, asking if DF would tell people to only chat about the game. He said he wasn't DF.

Quite obvious.

Then I started making fun of the rule, telling people to be quiet whenever they didn't talk about the game. Asking if me getting my dick sucked while playing the game would be bannable.

Quite understandably I was gagged and rightfully so because I would have trolled the rest of the game (Other's were gagged too, though they weren't trolling the admin, I think he might have actually gagged people for not talking about game matters).

It's really concerning when an admin says you can't talk about anything non-game related in the server. It pretty much sucks the fun right out of playing for those who have played a map a 1000 times.

This is just shy of an admin kicking someone just because they get dominated by a guy a lot. It reeks of the 'drunken with power' stereotype.
It's gross, it's offensive, and goddamnit, as much as you people may want, i don't want to try and find another server with as many funny dumb nerds as this one

I don't know what should happen. I always liked Versed on these forums so I was surprised at what he said so maybe just an understanding that voicechat about non-game related things shouldn't be gaggable/kickable/bannable unless you are screaming like an idiot?

First of all I have all the logs of what happened on the server so I don't need to debate what was and wasn't said. Here are my exact words to the server that you're complaining about.

That doesn't say "Don't talk about anything but the game or I'll kick/ban you"

There were about eight people on that were screaming in the mic, talking about stuff that had nothing to do with the situation or trolling. Trying to deal with that many people as one person isn't easy.

I gave the warning, I gagged the appropriate people and that's it. I wasn't killing anyone's fun I was keeping it fun for everyone on the server not just a handful of people.

The reason I made the statement is because new players that come on the server get run off or get the wrong impression when they hear people spamming on the mic or text.

If you want to talk about how big your weewee is you can take it to private chat. That wasn't an example they were really discussing the size of their man-hood.

As I stated above, I have the entire chat log of what conspired on the server and Drunken is more than welcome to review it if he so chooses. If he tells me I was wrong for what I did than I will be more than happy to apologize.

On a side note, when you asked if DF would approve of my actions I made the comment because I constantly get asked that very question. DF made me an admin because he can't always be there. My judgment call is the only one that matters at the time of the problem unless he's there to deal with it personally.

When I go to take action I think to myself "What would DF do?" and I can pretty much assume he wouldn't want people run off his server because a small group of people can't control themselves.

There's two sides to the coin when you're running off people by gagging them on a whim. Especially 8 people.

There was one guy screaming into the mic. We all hate that. Glad you kicked him. I don't recall any other people screaming, spamming techno, or being rascist. They were talking about dumb nerd shit and you just seemed like you gagged them because you were annoyed. Not for the good of the server

So I assume we can agree that gagging/kicking/banning someone for non-game related chat is a dumb thing? Like the real problem has to deal with screaming mic spam and nothing to do with the game-content of the mic spam?

Saying we should "cut down" on non-game related voice chat is what freaked me out. I don't even now how to quantitatively perform such an action, which is why I trolled like an asshole.

The real discrepancy comes from differing memories. You have a memory of 8 people being screaming mic spammers and continuing to be screaming mic spammers after a warning from an admin.

I honestly only remember one screaming mic spammer.

Especially after a warning from you, I remember people being very tame and quiet after the warning.

Except for the one screaming guy, whom you properly kicked.

I bitched about the whole game-content "cutting down" and I believe some people agreed, which is my only assumption on the reasoning for gaggin those multitude of people.

Eight people did not mic spam like screaming idiots. I think you gagged them for agreeing with my complaints about "cutting down" on non-game related voice chat and disobeying your ridiculous order. This is actually only my assumption but if you think 7-8 people continued to scream and mic spam after your warning you are quite delusional.

While I wasn't in the server at the time and this doesn't concern me, I feel like I need to cut in here.


Admins should only enforce server rules. If people weren't mic spamming, being racist, cheating, etc. then the admin should shut the fuck up and live with it.

I should be able to come on a server and trash talk an admin just like I could trash talk any other player. Unfortunately, we all know that's not the case and the majority of admins are fat, power-tripping nerdvirgins.

Hmmm, the "C word" is kind of evil no matter if it is player or admin. On the other hand telling an admin that they fail/suck should be alright. It's just a game......
