Yeah I think I've been a regular on SourceOP for almost 6 or 7 years now, as long as Steam and TF2 has been up and running eh... I don't mind giving up my reserve spot because it doesn't work anyway when the server is full, and all it causes is new players and new friends i meet not able to join up either. Something needs to be done and I'm in support of all these ideas. Little bonus items like Game's gun for donation of a certain kind would definitely get some attention people like that sort of thing. Get some of the maps that kill the server off there and some of the new popular community maps they run on other servers up there. Been spending alot of time playing new game modes on other servers, that could replace the old Goldrush server nobody is on or Valve 2 perphaps, who knows.
Me I like Vanilla, if it could go back to being as Vanilla as it possibly could be that would be a great plus, so it could give new players a taste of how fun TF2 was in the beginning also. That's my suggestions anyway. Thanks for reading.
tl;dr
Server rotation blows & sucks, get something done. Pay up if you love this, get rid of reserve slots!

I'm sure that no admin wants to hear from me, so I'll make it short.
I see changing the map to fill the server as an action with good intentions, but not if the map is changed daily to pl_badwater. The variety of maps is extremely limited if the server starts at pl_badwater and ends at cp_steel everyday.
I would also like to see different maps in the rotation, like koth_king and...
Just jazz up the rotation. I'm tired of being prone to Ibby's affinity with Badwater.

I barely play the game anymore, but anything to help get the server back on its feet is a good thing.

I adore SourceOP, was the second or third server I joined when I first started playing and it stuck with me. I remember two years ago, playing for a good eight or nine hours into the night and stopping in the early morning with the server still fully populated. I really miss those days.
I fully support a revamp of the reserved slot system. I can't count the amount of times I just quit because I had my slot stolen by a reserved slot only a few minutes after joining the server. The last few times I've tried to get on I've been plagued by huge queue times (exacerbated by reserved slots butting into the queue and stealing spots) and just quit. I think I've tried to get on during peak times three or four times during the past couple weeks and gave up after a half hour of waiting and seeing people with reserved slots join just fine. I don't doubt this has turned huge numbers of people away from the server at that.
Make reserved slots a privilege, I like the idea of turning it into a monthly pledge with tiered benefits (different ranks of some kind of special sparkly weapon or something). I've also wondered why SourceOP isn't a server that comes up for quick-play, if nothing else can, being added to that list could certainly alleviate our emptiness.
I'd also like to throw out the idea of adding an RTV and a vote to turn all-talk on or off. Since the server tends to go back and forth between tactical chatter and bullshitting it would certainly raise the appeal, especially since we used to be a pretty tight knit community of regulars and conversations would always get cut short during auto-balances and map changes.
Also, Enforcer for admin.

I definitely agree with anything that gets Valve Maps 1 populated again. That's pretty much the only TF2 server I've played on since the game came out and for months now I've been afraid it's just gonna permanently empty and disappear one of these days.

I agree with most others' points. New maps, additional mods, an alternative map vote system, and a revamp of the reserved slots/pledge system would all improve and help populate the server. I need more faces to stab.

saying change the rotation is fine, but please post ideal rotations.
The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth becomes the greatest enemy of the State.

I second the act of making Enforcer an admin. He is (or has been) as devoted to SourceOP as any other person I've seen on the server.
Also, the choice of all-talk could add humour to the server when spirits are down and spies are behind...
But what do I know, I'm no regular.

Hi all.
I agree strongly with a lot of the suggestions put on this thread.
I can't count the number of times a bad map (Hydro, Turbine) had the server go from 30/32 to 0/32 in 15 minutes. Getting rid of the bad maps can go a long way towards keeping players interested. Revamping the RTV scheme will also help a lot.
Fixing some of the map timers so that Dustbowl stage 3 doesn't last 25 flooping minutes.
Enforcer for Mod. Getting a few more responsible people with mod powers such that there isn't a drought of server pruning.
Adding an announcement when a person joins a 'dead' server like: "The last person joined 7 minutes ago", because people hop in for a second, see its empty, then hop out without waiting.
Instituting subscription reserved slots? Like $10 is good for a few months of reserved slots. This keeps the people who really want to play invested, without seeming like a money grab. Keeping a limited number of reserve slots is good for getting new blood in.
I never really pay attention to stats, but some people like em.

Take it off of a static rotation,
put in a vote system,
GIVE THE POWER TO THE PEOPLE!
