The Current state of the servers
#11

I'm a somewhat old reg on PH. Commonly referred to as, "Shut the fuck up, bitch."

While the rotation has been updated from what it was (I fucking hope I never have to see Cyberpunk again. Not even as an April Fools.), it's still in desperate need of a real tune-up. We have no way to add or remove maps, and we desperately need to. Some maps kill the server, and they just need to be taken off. There are also updated maps, maps made by players, that we can't play.

Map votes are utterly useless. And it's just a tug and pull to try not to skip the decent maps and losing players, even more than half of the server, because someone thought it was funny to skip. Little things like that just absolutely kill the server. And they don't rejoin.

With Dopp as our only admin, while he's great, we don't really have enough people to keep an eye on the server at all times. Dopp is the admin we need, not the admin we deserve. Something like that. Me and other regs can only yell at people for so long.

Having the basic rules on the first screen you see when you join would be absolutely fantastic. People can't fucking understand that cheating in hide and seek is the most obvious and stupidest thing you can do in a video game. It's fucking hide and seek.

Stats. Prophunt is filled with people who love their kill to death ratios, and their credits, myself included. A stats page would be popular for the regs who get off on looking good in the game.

And I never want the hats showing on props fixed. Ever. Running around as a box with pink shoes is the best fucking thing, and it would be the biggest shame in the world if it was fixed. New people just don't know how great it is yet.

I'm sure there are other things, but I can't think of anything at the moment. Basically we need a make over, because we look like the dirty hooker that you're tired of but you can't afford a nicer looking one, so you keep coming back.

Thanks for everything. I hope things get sorted easily.

Donator perks. I'd be honest and say if there were perks other than a slot reservation, I'd donate. Like coloured text. I just want pink text. But, regardless.
I'd look at other donator perks from communities, besides "pay to win", and "pay for admin" shit. A donator menu, not quite admin caliber, but maybe a simple voteban if an admin isn't around. Still a community vote. End of round effects. End of round invulnerability. Coloured text. Wait, I said that.

At the end of the day, a strong community will bring in new players, and will keep them coming back. People come to prophunt sometimes just for the people that play, because we love joking around and having fun. And I'm sure there's a lot of prophunt regs commenting on the thread, but we do love our server, and we do want to see it taken care of.

Although I haven't played in a while here, I think these changes would be good for the server. I had good times before, and would want the server to be the best it can be.

I've been playing on Source OP servers for 4-5 years now. I know the reason people leave; it's the maps and the reason the server is empty is because they need to be populated to entice new players to play. Change the really bad maps, get rid off them and make Enforcer admin. My goodness, he's dedicated so much time into populating the server you'd think he owned it. It would be great if other people would be interested in doing the same too. That's really the only way to fix the server.

There are still many other prop hunt maps out there that are not included on SOP prop hunt. Examples: Maze - A4, Headquarters - B3, Storm - B1C, Concord - B3, Ravage - B1, Grassland - A1, Devils Canyon- A1, and others. As I previously said, we need time and patience!

hi all

yea well i fully support any changes. As people have seen i started playing on hyperion for no other reason than its got people playing on it. We got a great community don't let it die. Fusion has a heap of good ideas along with dopp let them help.

Last night there was 18 source op regulars playing on hyperion in the early evening till we all moved to source. The games not dying the server needs attention there is still alot of interest from the regulars

my suggestion:

more maps (including custom)
better voting for them

there nothing new here ive been asking for this for along long time now as most of you already know

but im sure anything people like Dopp and Fusion make will be well received

see you in game

Enforcer{EMC}

ps sorry my spelling blows goats

New maps would be nice. Also the reserved slot system might need a tweak like Game said, since so many regulars have slots. It doesn't encourage the new players to stick around which we need to keep the server going.

Macabre (SPY). I've been playing on sourceOP for years as well and I remember when it was full almost 24/7 as time went on it got worse and worse and the server is almost dead now, like people are saying. And I agree to many of these statement, the server needs new map rotations and some changes ect. However I don't think this is enough, The admins are generally pretty good they get online and ban someone who is hacking but we need an admin thats a active player not just to help moderate problems but to keep thing running smothly, like change a map if its on a terrible one people dont want to play.

I too see the death of Valve 1 coming quickly. Enforcer is often the main reason it gets going most days, but that is hardly a way to sustain a server. I love playing with the regulars here, but after so long we have pretty much all gotten on each others friends list, so populating another server while sticking together isn't that hard. It already happened the other night when I saw Enforcer and a few others I know on another server, then before we knew it, we pretty much had an entire team of SourceOP regulars playing together.

But we still would rather be on SourceOP. I guess those free 30 points are addicting Tongue

The admins recently cut a number of server killing maps from the rotation (though a few still remain), and that worked out nicely. I do think the current map rotation needs more work though, so taking out a few more maps and adding some really good custom maps could really make a world of difference. Some maps, like Hydro and Turbine, just don't work out too well on a 32 player server. They can be fun at times, but usually just end up as a stale mate situation. I know there are some modified versions of stock maps like Turbine which might work better on our server. I haven't tried many custom maps since I play so often on SourceOP, but that's something I've been really wanting to try.

Aside from the map rotation, perhaps small tweaks to some stock maps can help them. I'm not entirely sure how doable it is, but perhaps giving certain maps different map timers or stage timers could help. Like the last stage in Dustbowl not being 20 minutes long, or DeGroot only needing 3 wins by a team to trigger the next map instead of 4.

Then there's the map voting system, which doesn't seem to be as robust as many would like. Is there a better one we could get that offers a third map choice and doesn't use the keys most people have bound to their different weapons? Or if we can simply modify the one we have. I know it was changed in the past.

Reserve slots is an issue that has come up before. Putting in a new reserve system and resetting the slots is perfectly fine with me. A small monthly or quarterly subscription to have a reserve slot with a few extra benefits (which don't affect gameplay) would be good. I love the idea of getting the community sparkle effect on my weapons like Game has on his Scattergun. Or even the little fire thing Ibby has on that rocket launcher.

Adding a couple more admins from the regulars to help maintain things would be good too. Not that the admins have been neglecting things when we need help kicking a hacker or anything like that, but having one or two more around wouldn't hurt.

And finally, the stat tracker thing on the server. I love having my stats, and it is honestly one of the reasons I like sticking to one server most of the time. I'm not concerned about earning more points really, it's more about seeing a breakdown of how I play. Plus it is hilarious to see Game do whatever he can to get those precious free points Tongue But I'm wondering if there is a newer version out, or if we can add more things for it to track. This is not at all something that is going to make me leave the server, just something to look at to see if there's any room for improvement.

I used to just open up tf2 and type in connect tf2valvemaps.sourceop.com until I joined. I haven't done that in months+.

I want this server to get more people again, and the major reason that it is dying now is bad maps come up and we get stuck on them. And then once a server starts to die it can be hard to pick it back up. Especially if the map lasts for at least 30m.

Anything that Game/Enforcer/Fusion suggest should pretty much be scripture, they're smart and are a good part of the tf2 community. Also that post Dopp made a couple of months ago is good. Check that out.

Or at least fix this map situation. Rock the vote with a non-forced-map-rotation would be at least on par with most other servers.

Static map rotation is NOT a niche of tf2 servers that people like.

And...I apologize for my grammar.

Also, bump.
