I'm thinking about releasing a beta of SourceOP for Orangebox games pretty soon (I mean it! It's even packaged and ready to go!), but want to first gauge interest. Anyone interested in such a thing?
I don't know yet whether it would be a public beta or if it should be sent privately to serious server admins. If you have an opinion about that, feel free to share.

what does releasing it to a select few do that a public release doesnt?
The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth becomes the greatest enemy of the State.

More focused feedback. I don't know. I guess public should work...

To be honest, I think it all depends on what your intention of releasing it is. Why wouldn't you want everyone to have access to the beta? I mean, I'm not sure what you have in mind for the future of SourceOP.
Personally, I'd go for public. More feedback and more popularity.

Private release means more quality feedback. Public release means more bad feedback to wade through. Even praise is bad feedback because it leaves you no room to improve on.
I was a commando you know.

Ok, ok. How about this:
Public for a few weeks, then private.

Yes, I plan to get something out tonight or tomorrow now that hl2 deathmatch has moved to Orangebox.

Make it public and then have it so you have a menu to give every item and hat for free, therefore ruining the hat-store.
