Scumbags!!!
#1

While playing on a GamersUN server last night a lad was saying all kinds of sexually explicit things around a couple of very young children that were speaking on the Server. When asked to stop, he did BUT 2 other lads absolutely made asses of themselves Dark Vengance (written in strange font) and [SSG] Super_1337_Boy. Dark Vengance carried on like a pedophile while [SSG] Super_1137_Boy who was formerally a freind of mine decided to tell everyone how many children i have and that he would rape my less than 2yr old daughter! These people have been reported to Steam, Admins and GamersUN aswell. I considered running the lads i.p and finding out his address but im trying hard not to. I ahve done this before and rang the person whom ripped me, well there father (you know who you are) If you play with fire people please expect to get burnt. Have some discretion!

tired of hearing people saying they can run an IP and get an exact adress... look gents you can't do that unless you have a word in or some big push pull with a telecommunications company :x

Or have a paid account to a private reverse hostname lookup?

Wikipedia Wrote:A hostname is a label that is assigned to a device connected to a computer network and that is used to identify the device in various forms of electronic communication such as the World Wide Web, e-mail or Usenet. Hostnames may be simple names consisting of a single word or phrase, or they may have appended the name of a Domain Name System (DNS) domain, separated from the host specific label by a period (dot). In the latter form, a hostname is also called a domain name. If the domain name is completely specified including a top-level domain of the Internet, the hostname is said to be a fully qualified domain name (FQDN).

So you type my web address into a reverse hostname look up - you are going to get an IP address you can plug into a geolocation service. It puts you in VA ( :!: ) Well now that proves along with you can't exactly find someone, but it's also incorrect some percentage of the time.

HOWEVER - despite a reverse hostname service being toooootally useless for what someone is trying to accomplish there is a much much less known about method that can on occasion actually find someone. It's called a 'whois' service. They are provided free and do some trickery with DNS queries.

Now that could be some potentially revealing information, but I'm going to assume that 99% of the people in this world do not privately own or operate their own web server out of home, and do not require a private domain name pointing to the address they live at.

Fun fact: that's out of date, and I've moved since then to closer to college. I won't be updating that information - ever -. Back to square one and my exact address is still relatively private. Would probably be easier to just ask me if you felt the need to threaten me over the internet. I'm cocky enough to tell you.

Feel free to shut me up though with an example showing where I live and how you did it with my IP address/hostname

Everyone on the internet is stupid. Knowing the location, down to a general neighborhood, or even suburb, and their user name, you can identify someone in a half hour of googling.

Nearly everyone uses the same stupid user name for shit tied to their real name, somewhere, which with the general area of their IP (which isn't always general - depending on provider, and type of provider, you can actually narrow it down to a block; Qwest/Century Link DSL in AZ has a large part of their network setup like that) you can find them without having to pay a dime.

I think it's a good thing I'm transparent, probably will help me get a leg up on trading a bit more quickly if I'm trust worthy in that sense.
