That weapon doesn't seem changed by the patch(es), and given that it can 1 hit targe demos and just about everything else... how is pyro ruined again?

It isn't ruined, just mindlessly spraying fire and being too lazy to use the axetinguisher doesn't work as well as it did before.

Oh yeah, because limiting yourself to a pure head-on offensive stance and making yourself COMPLETELY vulnerable to multiple enemies just to kill ONE is SOOOOOOO lazy when you are a class made to ambush groups of three to six enemies at once..

Obviously it isn't for every single situation, but most of the pyro community complaints seem to revolve around "I can't kill X class as easily now", when the reality of the situation is that they tried to burn a shield demo to death, or tried to burn a heavy to death, or tried to burn a medic to death and were beat down by the needles.

I've seen probably less than 10 pyros in the history of playing this game that regularly used the axetinguisher when it would've been an advantage to do so.

When I am playing and a pyro tries to W1 me and he dies while I live, I even take the time to tell him in chat that if he had used the axetinguisher it would've killed me. And then 99.9% of the time he goes and runs into a heavy holding down the flame button.

You are right that pyro is useful as a class to rush in and clear things out, but even in that situation the axetinguisher can possibly be better than the flamethrower. How many times have you seen a pyro get ubered, only to hold down the flamethrower against a single target, then the uber expires, the pyro bites the dust, and he didn't accomplish anything? Obviously when an sg is around or people are stacked right on top of each other fire is preferable, but the axe has a lot of uses and it is a shame that pyros are too lazy or unaware to use it, and simply cry about it when they percieve a nerf to their flamethrower.

axetinguisher is useless when 80-90% of map spaces do not have a wall against which to airblast and axe.

axtinguisher gets you killed because you can't reflect or dodge during that 2-3 seconds it takes to switch and hit with it

also relying on the axtinguisher for all your pyro kills is one of the dumbest tactics I've ever seen. It doesn't make you look hot-shit-pro either, as some of you may believe. 100% melee crit isn't skilled at all.

With mini-crit reflects and a shotgun/flaregun, you can at least get a few kills and live to tell about it. This is the important part - getting kills without getting killed.

the update made pyros worse against scouts and heavies, and pyros didn't exactly have it easy against them before.

Yep. I can't think of how many pyro frag videos I've seen where it's just a series of individual axtinguisher kills. IT'S NOT THAT HARD, FOLKS.

It also bothers me when I'm melee fighting and some pyro lights me on fire and axtinguishes me and thinks it's a fair fight. If that's how you melee, don't even bother Sad

Oddly enough they try that when I am scout half of the time.

As if you wanted to give me the close range advantage, which is the only thing you can do to make my scattergun more powerful than your shotty... Then again everybody uses flareguns because they are bad so they are fucked no matter what.

also don't forget melee is generally unreliable and broken in this engine, hearing the hit sound and impact and realizing it didn't do anything

I get this even in L4D2
