Improving Sourceop: An open to letter to DF

I don't understand how you're making that comment when you've barely played on the servers.

Also, I don't see why we need more admins. I agree with most of the issues, but I don't see the community growing bigger/friendlier with more admins. And most of the problems are taken care of as soon as the contact_admin form is sent out.

As far as Duplex goes, I honestly don't know why he's not banned.

I agree with DF with most of what he has to say. I've been here for quite a long time as well. From what I noticed, it is stacking that empties out the servers. This game is about competitive play and team work of course. If you truly ask any of the regulars, why the server empties out so fast, it's always due to the rage quitting from the non-stacked team.

The issue is and isn't with the current auto-scramble. The way its setup, it's just purely randomizing the teams. What you need are "more" even teams. In theory, it would be better if they had originally made it or could make it based off of both server rank and KPD. I've noticed that when games are highly competitive to the point where it goes back and forth, people tend to stay and play longer. The moment one team keeps rolling another team, the rest of the team rage quits. It's also, usually a lot of the regulars that bitch, complain, and belittle those that are new or not the of the norm.

Some may say that they mainly want to play with their friends, but more or less I've seen people in-game fine when the teams are balanced and are playing against their friends. My friend's list is full of regulars and we play against each other all the time. I don't hear them complaining that we're not on the same team. It's about building up a larger group of regulars again since others have left. It's, as retarded as it sounds, the "circle of life" for the servers. Removing the auto-scramble may appear appealing for the moment and may spark some temporary interest, but I don't believe it will maintain as a foundation for keeping the server strong.

My 2 cents.

o really?

As far as I can tell the goldrushers posts are actually constructive to the discussion of pitching ideas to improve the servers, while all the unproductive negative comments are coming from the all mappers.

moralhazard Wrote:Regulars who stack onto the rape train are the reason nobody else becomes a regular. You can only get rolled so many times before you find a new home.

That and the regulars who establish some false hierarchy based upon who's been here the longest and therefore has the biggest dick will be the downfall of SourceOP.

As far as I can tell none of the above comments helps the discussion. I understand that you all mappers don't like playing on goldrush whatever your reason. However, people in this post are offering advice on how to make the server better. You will also notice that they are discussing what will benefit their server, not bashing other peoples ideas on how to change a server that they rarely, if ever, play on. People don't like the autoscramble on goldrush, so unless you have played their don't comment on whether or not this will help. The scramble actually makes a huge difference (for better or worse) on the goldrush server, as opposed to the all maps server where the map changes roughly every 45 minutes, and there is on average about 1 scramble per map. Plus because all of you all mappers auto assign to a team it doesn't make a difference if it scrambles.

In my personal opinion the autoscramble stacks teams more often than it balances them, so all it does is prevent me from playing with my friends (waits for comment regarding me being an egotistical stacking prick).

Regarding the other points:

Of course reducing the lag would be beneficial, no argument against that.

Community growth would help bring in more donations for the servers, but I don't think adding subforums for each server would necessarily help. Especially given the negative attitude towards non all map players.

While having more admins could very well be a pain in the ass. I do know that I have rarely seen an admin on (although most of my time has been on the goldrush server).

* Not many people read the MotD to know about contact admin
* Not many people that know about it will use it for anything except for the most extreme cases, letting shit go like people who can't get vote kicked. I posit that should contact_admin be used as much as it should be used, the admins would be hit up at least once an hour. Better to have more admins to do more work.
* More admins doesn't mean less friendly. It just means more enforcement of rules and more jackasses being taken care of before people decide to find a better server. They have to think before acting, and act fairly, and most importantly be accountable. Stupid admins kill servers ("oh, you shot me 5 times, let me kick you"); good ones save servers.
* Duplex isn't so bad. He talks trash at the end of rounds and laments about "the good old days". The rampant hate he gets is what is really annoying. And his mic.

Also, removing autoscramble in the 24/7 servers is a bad idea imo

These are responsible adults who take server rules seriously, play the servers a lot, and I doubt would be abusive with admin rights. Sunkistadora's group is sourceops largest and she does promotions. Maybe she could do a few for sourceop? Please, before I get laughed out of the water, these are only recommendations, someone is bound to have BETTER ideas.
