DF or anyone that may be computer savvy?
#1

So I've been using a turtle beach headset for quite some time now. Never had a problem with it. Over the last couple days, my volume in TF 2 has gone down, and the folks I'm chatting with on Ventrilo are able to hear my system sounds, even though I'm wearing a headset.

What might cause this? Is my soundcard going, or may it be the headset?
I'm stumped, as I've checked a million forums, and tried everything I can think of, and I'm pretty decent with hardware.

Help/flames greatly appreciated.

Also dongs.

Check make sure the right recording device is selected. Check the volume options in TF2. Check the volume cvar.

The volume is all the way up in TF 2, where's the cvar?

Enable console. Type volume into it. Make sure it's 1. If it's not 1, that's your problem. Type volume 1. However I think the CVAR is directly related to the slider so this probably won't be the problem.

If those dont work your headset is probly jacked :? I dunno for sure if some of those even work with the hl engine though  I like Logitech for headsets but the headphones aren't very comfortable anymore.

are you sure the mic didn't get turned around? Usually headset mics are directional instead of omni. That might explain why people can hear your system but not you.

Making sure your mic is facing the right direction is one of the first few steps you must take.

I have no dongs but I had a mic problem and so far at least 3 other ppl have experienced the same thing and my solution worked for them.

(All of our mics worked w/ Windows controls/testing but not in game/Vent/TS/Skype/etc)

I went to my TF2 settings, switched to speakers then back to headset and then it started working again.

Again, if this isn't your problem, that's not going to help you much but if you've tried everything else, may be worth a shot *shrug*

No, people can hear me, just barely.

(It's a set of turtle beach X1s, which are generally an xbox 360 mic/headset.) (I was sponsored for CoD 4 360 and stuff.)

Do you think it could just be the mic deciding it doesn't like PC gaming? It worked fine for a while. I don't mind going out and shelling out 100 bucks for a new gaming headset, I just wanna be sure there's a possibility it'll fix the issue, as this headset worked fine for a long time.

Would you like to use mine?

I'm afraid you'll have to give it back when you're done though.
