A New Tournament Proposal
#1

Taking a step back and reading everyone's posts about these tournaments has led me to believe that people want one of two separate types of games. I think there's no reason we can't have both types of tournaments.

Tournament #1: Call it "SourceOp TF2 Team Ladder Season 1." Teams are 6v6 or 7v7, Only 1 demo allowed, 1 medic allowed, and 2 max every other class. Team rosters are not clan or server dependent but must be set at start of season.

Tournament #2: Call it "SourceOp TF2 Server Games Number One." Teams are comprised of the "all-stars" of each class from that server. Every player signs up for a server at the start of registration, dependent on time spent on server. Players are placed into a ballot (each player can choose 2 classes to be entered into) and server members vote for the "best" player. for each class. Then the servers compete in best of 3 or best of 5 games.

What do you guys think of doing it that way?

sounds too complicated, we just need to do the tourny like orginally suggested.

What about this?

forget about all the highlander stuff and the smaller teams. From the start, I thought that the whole tournament was made for a fun thing to do between each of the servers. Take the regulars of each and have them pit them against each other. But now with the whole highlander theme, it limits who gets to play, and in my opinion, all regulars should have the chance to represent the servers that they play and they all deserve it. Breaking down so that its 6v6, or 9v9, to me, ruins the whole fun aspect of it by making it more of a clan verse clan match.

I was thinking of having a set time for all (from the SOP Tourney group) to meet up before the match and then divide the teams from the lowest count from any server (i.e. lowest group has 12 people so it would be a 12v12 math), but then that would just mean some people could intentionally not sign on to keep it down.

Dont get me wrong, I think server vs server is a fun idea as long as its not so clan like. I have played a game where it was very "clan-like", and to be honest, it just ruined the game for me. It was a game where you are grouped with other people and essentially had to be in an alliance else you would be bullied or destroyed. Now I understand that is a stretched from where we are now, but I just want you to know where I'm coming from.

So for that, I say to get away from that. Take all people on and before joining a game, randomly place them into teams (i.e. teams 1-2 or teams 1-4). So that way we can all play among and against other servers. Why separate the servers more with the "best of the best" and why not just have fun playing among each other? And I wouldnt even limit the classes. You get to play with your friends and hopefully make new ones. nothing wrong with that.

And if you do insist on a tournament like system, you CAN take my suggestion above and giving a set number of games to be played and keep the random teams for each game. And if team 1 of game 1 wins, all players in team 1 gets 1 win. Team scramble. Team 1 of game 2 wins, all players in team 1 gets 1 win. And so on. continue until end of the "season" and winner(s) would have the most wins. Now I said season since not everyone can play for hours It would be nice to allow them the same chances. Not playing one game would be an automatic loss. At the end you can tally the wins and losses and have a "victor" at the end

The things I like about the sourceop servers (or at least goldrush), and I think everyone can relate, are:

1. The people
2. Full or near full server(s)
3. No class limits

I'm still playing because of those reasons. And if we need this first serious tournament first, then so be it. But it would be nice to have a tournament that did not come out to be so serious. To be honest, I rather sign in that type of tournament over the highlander deal.

I agree with Sups' long and well written argument.

Sups, I guess my mistake was thinking people wanted to take this more seriously then they did. If you make it an actually tournament, then you need some structure. But if you just want to get together and dick around gold rush vs valve maps #1 I'm sure we can hook something up.

If anyone wants to compete 6v6, I'd like to organize something and my guys are more than up to the challenge. Otherwise, I'll keep my nose out of things since it only seems like I'm making matters worse.

We need to still play highlander... but vote on what the server thinks the best class is for the player....

Are we even doing this?

Half the people involved are not even aware of this event.

LOL, tis true. I think DF needs to add a message to the server when people enter to point to the forum and that there is a tourny.
