Zeitgeist Wrote:getthere1tme Wrote:Sups, I guess my mistake was thinking people wanted to take this more seriously then they did. If you make it an actually tournament, then you need some structure. But if you just want to get together and dick around gold rush vs valve maps #1 I'm sure we can hook something up.
If anyone wants to compete 6v6, I'd like to organize something and my guys are more than up to the challenge. Otherwise, I'll keep my nose out of things since it only seems like I'm making matters worse.
I'm with you here, and this is why i made the post. i think half the people here just want to fuck around and mix up the players from the servers and have some fun. which sounds awesome, id like to come.
but there are also a lot of us that want a much more structured and organized type of fun, where we can talk a lot of shit, and have a real SEASON. so, with that in mind, getthere, do you want to maybe get together with pHd and DF and look at the possibility of our two clans hosting a more structured team tourney with sourceop?
I think this may be the best place to post my opinions on this whole issue. I understand both sides and I am not choosing sides here. Whatever is decided, I will still help however I can.
However, I want to point out that quite a few regulars of SourceOP servers were once pro or semi-pro players or at least people who played first-person shooters competitively.
Many of them enjoy these servers because of standard maps, almost always full servers and (typically) decently skilled players to compete with. Many are not members of clans because they don't want to play seriously competitive anymore. Some are members of small, friend-based clans. Most just want to hang out and have some fun on some cool servers.
While the idea of clan-based tourneys is certainly interesting, it doesn't really seem to fit with SourceOP. I'm not knocking the skill of the players in these clans- you guys are awesome. But if you want to be that serious and start "competitive TF2", shouldn't you have your own servers like real competitive clans?
How exactly do you plan to have a season of clan vs clan tournaments on public servers? Are you expecting DF to reserve his servers for you during your match times?
There's nothing wrong with Frost's original idea of just having regulars from the different servers get together and play-off for a series of maps. It's a great way to let the "regs" of the different servers get to know one another and it could be fun to see how the skill and teamwork matches up between players and servers. That doesn't mean we can't take the idea seriously and form structured play times and tournament dates.
What others are proposing is much more exclusive- forming the "dream teams" of each server and signing up clan-exclusive teams to play against others goes against the spirit of the original idea. Going with this idea, many regulars won't even get to play and they will feel they are being excluded- which is the one thing many players want to avoid when they play on SourceOP servers in the first place.
One of the main things that makes SourceOP servers great is the equality. When you first come here, you have just as much right and responsibility as the next guy. You have a fair shot to prove yourself as a player as anyone else. There are individual clan tags and player tags but SourceOP isn't a clan and you never have to worry that you're the "pub" and can't have fun here.
The idea of clan-based tournaments takes all that away. It says, "If you're not in the cool-kids' club, you can't sit at this lunch table."
I'm not saying I wouldn't like to see some of the "big" clans duke it out for title of the best so we can all point and laugh at the losers. I'm just saying I'm afraid doing that sort of thing on SourceOP servers might actually turn some people
away from the servers, which is definitely not what we want.
Just my 2 cents: take it or leave it but don't try to spend it; you can't get shit for 2 pennies these days.
