Tf2outpost's search feature works wonderfully, Sneeza did a really nice job setting the whole site up. I would suggest giving them a try as well.
Good to hear there's going to be an overhaul. Any tidbits on what the issue was with the search feature? DB needed some performance tuning/new schema?
