I find it a bit sad that not one person has said anything negative about anything in this post regarding homosexuals. No Christian has come on and started preaching their beliefs or any random pictures that make fun of homosexuals.

As soon as someone attempts to clear up a misunderstanding by bring up God and what the Bible says someone has to go and post pictures that they think are funny but could easily be offensive to Christians. So let's think about homosexuals and their feelings but not Christians.

My post was not directed solely at you but in reference to your photo since you bring it up, it is a grossly inaccurate portrayal of what Christianity is actually about and a poor attempt at what I assume is supposed to be humor and/or your explanation for why you don't believe in/agree with religion.

I do not need to explain how all of Christianity is not like that picture says at all. You can refer to my wall of text above for that explanation.

So my point would not be that you are lumping all religions into Christianity but that you are lumping all Christians together as one, which is inaccurate according to history and facts of theology.

    i HAVE ONE

    Atheism:

The belief that in the beginning there was nothing, which exploded. And then the entire universe was somehow consisting of hydrogen and radiation, configured itself into self-replicating bits and became humanity. Makes perfect sense!

Ah, so either we believe the universe was created by
    i)God
    or
    ii)chance

    Either way, one has faith.

For the record, I am a christian and have nothing against homosexuality, but accepting it as an inevitability is against human nature.

Pre-read note: after looking this over, it seems like im attacking versed a lot. that's not true. im attacking people who share sentiment about what he posted, NOT about what he believes, as i don't know enough about what he believes to make that assumption. Incoming wall of txt in 3, 2, 1...

I take it personally when you say that no christian has come on and started preaching. Sure, no evangelical mormon has been posting pamphlets in this thread, but the amount of pain and hate that comes from the right-wing religious zealots in this country is ASTOUNDING. Athiests are absolutely the david in this scenario, and if you think they are not, you are simply out of touch.

Furthermore, no one has restrained stating what they believe in this thread, and it really shouldn't stop now.

As soon as someone attempts to clear up a misunderstanding by bring up God and what the Bible says someone has to go and post pictures that they think are funny but could easily be offensive to Christians. So let's think about homosexuals and their feelings but not Christians.

misunderstanding? here's my point of view becuase it (clearly) hasn't been clear enough. fuck that dusty old book, fuck that dusty old faith, and ultimately, fuck that decrepit nonfunctional morale system. it's ignorant and self fullfilling and has set mankind back thousand and thousands of technological and social developmental years. our current condition can be blamed solely on christians and their attempts to control both history and our future.

i can assure you there is no gay agenda. we dont meet in a townhall building and sing and read blindly off of written and re-written texts we found in a cave. but some christians do. so why aren't more people worried about the christian agenda?

while i honestly do respect the majority of moderate christians, muslims, jews, hindus and sikhs as human beings; i am appalled at their utter lack of reason and blind faith in organized or unorganized religious rights and rituals.

that is to say, im a fundamentalist athiest. i ACTIVELY deny existence of a "god concept," to the full extent of my abilities, at almost any cost, in order to attempt to even the playing field.

certainly this topic started about gay rights, but if we want to move it in the direction of the validity of belief and faith, then let's go for it. the judeo-christian morale system has been in place on this earth for too long, hurt too many people, and started too many wars. The time has come, finally, to put that bullshit into the ground, and maybe visit every decade or so out of nastalgia, the way we visit grandma's grave.

ADDENDUM: im a reasonable guy. im understanding where warranted, and militant where warranted. insomniaprincess brought up some interesting points, ie, that some religious individuals (specifically judeo-christian individuals) have molded to accept or partially accept the New Morality of our age. it's a step, albeit a baby one. i believe it to be a transitioning stage to ending the current morality. how i react depends on the individual experience.

if a person is accepting Science and Gay Rights into their worshiping experience solely to placate the Peoples Movement, or worse, to placate their own fears that what they worship is invalid or illogical, then they are no better then crusade-mongering neocon right-wing ultra catholics.

if a person is accepting Science and Gay Rights into their worshiping experience in an effort to enrich their lives and seek truth and understanding between humanity, then i guess it couldn't hurt, and is certainly preferable to a fundie.

let me give you an example of the first kind of "neo-christian"

For the record, I am a christian and have nothing against homosexuality, but accepting it as an inevitability is against human nature.
translation: i have nothing against you!!!!! (except everything you believe in! doh! so close!)

do you see how that statement hurts and undermines the second type of "neo-christian" i've outlined?

I am hardly a neo-christian, as my style of Christianity has been around since the early 1600's (if not more) and was FOUNDED on the principles you speak of. (that of accepting other people's culture to enrich your own life)

The reason that mainstream Christianity is against homosexuality bases off of the battle between the catholic church and roman society. Homosexuality was widely followed in the roman empire, so they denounced it and made it a "sin". In fact, a lot of the catholic moral system is there simply to reject the ancient roman culture, and because they chose what went into the bible and what didn't, they made Christianity the abomination it is today.
