    Trojan removal

So after a drunken night of TF2, I accidentally opened an attachment from an e-mail and now i have this.

Neither Spybot nor AVG can remove it. I tried to remove the file manually but I can't find it. I even made all hidden files visible. Specifically, I can't find the System subfolder after the Temp subfolder. Suggestions??

try booting into safe mode so it's not already loaded in memory when you try to remove it. if the files are hidden, go into folder options and try to show them. could also try a system restore if you have any recent restore points, but some of the more sophisticated viruses will put themselves in there too.

Disable AVG and boot into safe mode, run HijackThis and remove all traces of it (be sure to MAKE DAMN WELL SURE THAT YOU KNOW WHICH THINGS YOU ARE REMOVING) with that. follow up with ComboFix, reboot with AVG enabled and do a full scan.

If it's still there when you re-boot then download Process Explorer (second party microsoft utility that replaces task manager) and shut it down on a service-level and repeat the ComboFix and AVG scan.

If THAT fails, then get a flash-drive bootable linux distro with an antivirus on-board and scan it through that.

If any of that is beyond you or that doesn't work then you'll need to format/reinstall.

Why would you go to the store? Just buy online. That way you can spend an extra 500 on 4 more gigs of ram.

NM. AVG came to the rescue eventually and purged it from my system. That'll teach me to stop drinking so much and logging onto TinyChat.....
