Karthus wall was (and still is) one of the strongest abilities in the game.

But it was still his only real means of defense.

It's like going and saying "URGOTS SWITCH IS ONE OF THE BEST UTILITY MOVES IN THE GAME" and stripping the armor and MR Bonus from it.
