How do I install mods onto a non-steam version of half-life1

I have a non steam version of half life 1, got it a very long time ago, how do I put mods onto it?

Go to the folder it's in, not steam folder, or add the key to steam and play off that and go to where games are usually

Not really sure, I dont know how to add mods to HL1. Look it up on Google.
