    I hear voices...

So, I'm not sure if many of you are familiar, but SourceOP comes with this program that allows me to remotely administer the server (here is an old screenshot). This weekend, I programmed a feature that allows admins to hear voice chat now too! I think it's really cool, what about you guys?

I can't talk back. I can talk back using the standard text chat though Theoretically, it would be possible to talk back over voice, but voice chat has to come out of some player. What player would it come out of? I could have a bot in the server and make it come from the bot, but I don't like that idea because it wastes a player slot.

Why not have it come from every player? Or would that cause lag/echo?

    lol....

Imagine if everyone was talking at once. Yes it would be laggy. It would be loud and it would be echoy. Maybe you misunderstood what I meant though. I meant I could theoretically use the program to voice chat back with players as if I were in game using voice chat. But I'm not in game, and that's the problem.

And yes it is useful. I can now see and hear everything people are doing without being in game.

Ahhh very nice! Now we can hear what people say when they are in the server alone with a bunch of bots.

lol... ya I guess that's one way to use it. I've actually experienced this when I was hosting a CSS server. Some body came in and didn't realize he was playing against 7 bots and started typing in chat yelling at them and stuff. Quite comical.

I figured it would be most useful to make server-wide announcements. If you need to speak through a player, then presumably you'd need to pick at least two, one from each team. Too bad there'd be side effects from choosing everyone though, I think it'd be worth a chuckle to see everyone running around with a chat icon over their head, and it'd definitely get everyone's attention for the announcement. Your admin program looks pretty slick in any case, though.

Maybe create an entity of some sort that would channel the voice chat? something similar to HLAmp? (even though hlamp isnt really entity based...)

    n/m bad idea

that COULD be a good text system. You put a blackboard entitiy in every map (through a config file, one in every spawn.) that can be used to directly access the forums (or a special message board.).

It would also be cool if you could use this to directly connect your in-game character to forums, and made a phBB plugin to connect the two via mySLQ server and such. This would make the plugin HUGE for clanners, as they could generate members from their forums directly through the game. I would also personally love you for making it, and that means you can have a bunch of my money. (ill even sign a contract that garnishes my wages in order for you to complete this, that is how awesome it would be.)
    /sarcasm

This isn't a bad idea actually. The only problem with it is that voice channels have to be on actual player entities.

Also, for the text thing, it doesn't seem possible. I can't make an entity have text written on it. I could make like some thing that when used or looked at closely, opens the forums in an in-game browser window if thats what you mean.
