The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth becomes the greatest enemy of the State.
Silly things?
They shelved the Half-Life episodes.
They bought the Left4Dead team and released the game without adding enough content to justify the cost. Instead of focusing on any updates or additional content, they churned out a clone for another $50 as fast as they could and divided the player base. L4D2 was just a copy with a few minor changes they could have added to the original... tried to say they couldn't update the old L4D to use new engine features or some shit.
Portal - $50 for a couple hours of game play.
Portal 2 - Portal 1, but with a friend!
Team Fortress 2 - Polycount set bonuses are fucking lame, but would be acceptable to me if they were available to every player. I won't spend a damned penny in the mann co store, so that puts me at a disadvantage because I don't play enough to get/craft the hats to complete a set. Now it's free to play and someone can pay a couple bucks to be premium. This is after they claimed to be against selling DLC and making it clear that Microsoft forced them to charge for it on XBox Live. Now they're milking the DLC-tits because making stupid fucking hats is more profitable than developing real content.
It's not just one or two "silly things". They've changed their entire strategy and goals. Less effort, more money. They're no longer making anything single player because they can't add in-game stores so people can show off all the stupid shit they paid for to their friends.
Fixed that for you.Originally Posted by Norrec

@Norrec: The real and obvious question is when will we have hats in L4D2?jk
Anyhow, I'm not mad at all its F2P, I'm more worried about the abuse of scammers (a full trade account you can get for as low as .2 if you know what your doing) and hackers. I know from an incident reported here awhile ago about someone who was hawking CD keys and valve disabled all the accounts he ever accessed on his computer (like 7 I think). Hopefully Valve will step up and start to take more action like that against hackers and scammers alike to mitigate the potential "threat" by F2P players (also mentioned in the TF2 F2P FAQ page) . Otherwise, it still is a game nearly 4 years old, I'm still sticking around for the foreseeable future.
Edit: and what oza said about portal 1, (valve had no clue how the game would be received and was too risky at the time to release by itself. so it was a bonus)
Thanks.

Also the problem is that people still put up with their shit. The fucking tf2 apologists annoy me more than anything (except maybe religious apologists, but that's another issue). Why do people feel the need to defend every fucking aspect of the game? Isn't it obvious that any semblance of visual aesthetic has been fucked up completely? Not to mention that the gameplay, which was once at least somewhat elegant, is now bloated and full of shit.Originally Posted by Norrec
Also the fact that portal 2 has hats and an in-game store is a telling indication of how valve will be designing future games. This sort of bullshit eventually kills my desire to play games, no matter how good they are.

I think there should be premium only servers. At least that would cut a little bit of it out. But, these new weapons are insane OP, like the tomislav. A silent minigun with next to no spin up time and just as much damage is just too far. I think they did it to make the free player comparable to old players... I hope they get the nerf bat.
make me an admin! i'm fair and tolerant.
