I played dota once, in a 5vs5 apem for noobs game. I was kicked for feeding the other team and told to uninstall wc3.

I knew exactly which characters to pick to destroy my own team, it was a blast.Originally Posted by ibby

it retains the top-down RTS feel that Warcraft3 gave.
i cant be bothered to log in to take my own screenshot, and could only find one decent one from google, showing the UI
thats pretty outdated, from a few builds ago. it's essentially the same, but better looking.
you have a meta-game character called your "summoner" that levels based on your game wins. each game you control any one of 38 champions (more will be added after these are finished being balanced) on a team of 5v5. each champion has one passive skill, 4 other skills that are generally active skills and unique to that champion, teleport back to base, and two summoner skills (of which there are something like a dozen to choose from, independent of your champion selection)
Additional customization is brought on by persistent "rune books" and "mastery trees" (summoner selections that enable you to add to any champions stats and a "talent" tree type of thing) and per-game item purchasing (dozens of items, but newb friendly thanks to a "recommended" items section for each champion)
very simple gameplay to pickup, deceptively difficult to master.
Toss me an invite and ill try it out with you guys I guess.
Wasn't this mod based on the Aeon of Strife maps on starcraft?
'Cuz if so those maps were fucking awesome.

yes, DotA was originally fully based on AoS. Then you had DotA Allstars which was the Frozen Throne version. It boasted a higher power level for heroes and items and a more unforgiving level of play.
So does the map layout on LoL look anything the same? And are they implementing a TDA sort of matchmaking system? That is one with real consequences of getting banned and such? That was really the biggest thing that made the map playable on bnet
