His point is/was dont deal with shady people, dont be an idiot, dont be lazy to begin with you lazy idiot greedy fuck.
Thanks.
Less than that really - don't be a fucking moron when you trade and/or don't let greed and laziness blind you.
This is the thread I said I wasnt going to post: http://forums.sourceop.com/threads/1...e-message-here
A lot of smart traders were bitten, as were a lot of stupid traders - by being lazy, greedy or just being an idiot. In this particular instance, no, they wouldnt have been bit by using Bitcoin.
Bitcoin, paypal, seashells, whatever, you can be burned by being an idiot, by being greedy, or by being lazy. You can be scammed or sharked with any payment method. So don't be a lazy, greedy idiot.
People already summed up already but the golden rule is "know who you are dealing with". It's not that hard losing 5 minutes in order to do very easy cross-reference checks between STEAM_IDs, backpacks, rep threads, steamrep, etc. I've never been scammed and I did a lot of cash transactions back in the day. To me, PayPal still is the best option we got.
Mt.Gox wasn't a problem with bitcoin, it was a problem with shitty banking errors allowing people to make double withdrawals. The same thing happened to physical in the dawn of computer banking. That's all beside the point, you can spoof a bitcoin transaction that will last long enough to get through a steam trade, anyway.
There's always going to be a sketchy ass trick you can use to screw people on any transaction method. Unless SourceOP made its own escrow service that held steam items and currency until trades are double verified there's no benefit to changing how anything works.
/sarcasm
It wouldn't be cheap either. Ignoring legality, sOP would need a person to monitor every trade less we try and have software handle it, which would lead to vulnerability.
And then if it DID get off the ground people would blame the staff and the system when things went wrong the same way they blame the payment system when shit goes wrong now. This would even be reasonable because it's the Escrow system is designed to absorb and mitigate liability.
/sarcasm
legally sop could not run an escrow service, nor would we even attempt something like that (steamrep.com already looked into it and said "fuck it" for all the required legal reasons)
how bout sop users stop being fucking retards and take care in who they deal with.
Thanks.
