Upon installing a new Sapphire HD4870 I randomly received a BSOD containing:
disk.sys page fault in a non-paged area.
I can induce this BSOD by running speedfan 4.38.
Included below are system specs and my troubleshooting steps thus far. If anyone has any knowledge of the error, it would be greatly appreciated (OZA???)
I have posted to the AMD/ATI forums, but I have not been lucky getting results from there.
-----------------------------------
Motherboard: MSI K9A2 Platinum
CPU: AMD Phenom II 940 3.0 GHz
RAM :4 X 2 GB Mushkin 800MHz
Video Card: Sapphire HD4870
PSU : Corsair HX-620
Monitor: Gateway HD2200 via DVI
Hard drives: 74GB Raptor, 2 X 400 GB WD Caviar SE16 (ubuntu Studio drive and backup audio drive. All current firmware)
Optical Drives:ASUS 2014-LT
Additional PCI cards: RME HDSP-9632
Number of fans present: 5 (three from the motherboard and two direct from the PSU)
Operating System : XP- 64 sp2 fully updated
Video Card Drivers in Use: latest Catalyst drivers 9.6
Motherboard Drivers Used: The BIOS version is 1.8 and all motherboard drivers are current from the MSI website
Apps/Games causing issues ( and if they've been patched ): The most repeatable crash is when I open speedfan 4.38 which begins to load and then results in the following BSOD:
disk.sys page fault in non-paged area
Other than that, I just get random crashes. Sometimes I can play games fine, other times it crashes when Crysis or TF2 loads.
All major components check 100% after thorough testing ( eg. Memory & Memtest86 ): I ran memtest for a while and will run it overnight tonight, but the crashes did not begin until I installed the new card today.
System clean of viruses / spyware etc: Running Avast and Comodo and the system is apparently clean.
Other things tried : I googled the filename/error and found messages talking about memory errors and hard disks failing, but the forums those messages were on did not seem thorough and more like people taking guesses. The google search did not turn up too much.
When I installed the new card I booted into safe mode, uninstalled the 3870, CCC, deleted the ATI folders, ran driver sweeper, ran CCleaner's registry cleaner and then rebooted and re-installed both CCC and the WDM file.
Don't know what else to do...
