sounds like a very simple worm that just hooks onto the steam application to me. I doubt any antivirus could sort out the actual malware from steam, and since it uses steam's connection it isn't detected by shitty software firwalls.
That being said software firewalls, anti-virus, and anti-malware programs are pretty useless and stupid.
