Yea i very well know about viruses silly. I am a CompSci graduate and programmer. But if you wanna get all smarty pants on me you'd know it wouldn't be termed a virus unless it was self replicating. Point was its more effective in terms of phishing not to use malware since malware is detectable and fixable by security applications whereas if the goal was to get your info and then phish for more info, they could just use the fake website followed with an app that logs into all accounts they've gathered into their sql database and spams messages to the friends lists. sounds like a very simple worm that just hooks onto the steam application to me. I doubt any antivirus could sort out the actual malware from steam, and since it uses steam's connection it isn't detected by shitty software firwalls.

That being said software firewalls, anti-virus, and anti-malware programs are pretty useless and stupid.

He probably doesn't have any malicious software. What Ranma said is most likely right. The hijacker probably just logged in and sent messages to all his Steam friends.
