Tarquin, Half-Duplex, locked thread, etc

I wanted to give my two pesos and I'm sure other people want to as well. IP said come to the flame bucket so here I am. I wasn't there for the situation but here's the way I see things.

Duplex is infamous and a repeat offender. He also instigates this kind of reaction from people constantly, whether an admin is there to see it or not. Though as a repeat offender, it seems like his punishment should scale as well because it's pretty clear that he never learns his lesson. Personally I never see him talking trash as a clear "offense" because it's real simple to just mute him. However, if Duplex's form of agitation is against the rules, then he's hardly new to starting trouble.

I've played with Tarquin maybe two whole days since I started on Valve 2. I've never seen or heard him get out of line but people seem to like to give him shit. I've also heard from people he's the resident pubstar. It's completely possible that egos just collided here and Tarquin wouldn't let it go resulting in his ban. Oh and LOL @ getting raged at a 5 minute ban.

Admining or modding anything on the internet is a pretty thankless job. Don't disrespect admins and mods. They do it for free. They do it for us. They put up with a lot of shit and spend a lot of their free time they can be doing other things to make the servers a great place for everyone.

If you think you're being mistreated, reason with the mods POLITELY (I know that's hard for some of you) or just talk to DF. Be thankful you're treated with any amount of fairness. The internets is not a democracy. You don't have a right to play on these servers, it's a privilege. DF and IP are completely within their right to pluck a number from 1-32 out of a hat and permaban your ass just for shits and giggles.

And before you fuckers say it, no I'm not kissing ass. I was a head mod on a 100k+ member website for 2 years so I know what a shitty job it is. Hug your admins today!

Duplex = Mute + Gentle bashing. "God, I wish I was Duplex!" and bullshit like that. Nothing more than that from me. Mute is a great thing. I just wish I could perma-mute the fucker.

As for admins, the ones here are some of the better ones. I was a moderator of a few sites, and dealing with people whining about everything, as well as trying to bash me because they disliked my method of moderating (and being gay, I have an easy way for people to start their bullshit *shrug*). Insomnia's never been anything less than cool when I've seen her around, so it's pretty sad to see people getting so full of themselves that they can't be in the wrong.

I'm hardly complimenting him. If it feeds his ego to know we're talking about him, then I don't mind. Duplex knows he talks shit. He doesn't give a shit. He likes to get rises out of people. He's going to be as rude as he wants. I really don't care enough that he gets his jollies from all this drama. Why wouldn't I talk about the dude if I want to?

The part that used to rage me the most is how rude he was to the newbs but its even hard to take that seriously anymore. In his hayday, he was super serious and believed all his own hype. I think now even he realizes he's a joke.

I think Jump does as much work as Duplex does skill wise, honestly. Jump is a huge puss and everything, but he does occasionally rack up the kills. Plus, atleast Jump is kind of funny in a Charlie Chaplin sort of way. The only time he talks is to type something completely obscene in chat like "faggot spy motherfucker"

Since ppl seem upset about this and this is a more appropriate place to discuss it, this is what happened on this particular occasion:

Duplex joined the server (that I had been silently watching for about 3 hours already). One player that I have previously had a problem with who likes to abuse votekick, started votekick on Duplex before he had time to get out of spawn. It didn't pass.

Played a round, lost a round, Duplex said "This team sucks; I don't think anyone knows what they're doing."

This made his team angry and they votekicked him. He got a temp ban and I spoke privately with him. I told him if he came back to keep it constructive or don't say anything at all. I then told him that if he caused any trouble, I would have to ban him for a while.

Duplex apologized,waited out his temp ban, returned and played the game without any problems. He switched classes when it was needed for better class balance and he played well with members of his team. They won this round.

He muted the guys who were previously giving him a hard time. These players (one of them Tarquin) continued to make comments to Duplex after everything he said which was disturbing the server.

If Duplex said "Alright, we can do this guys", Tarquin would said "shut up Duplex, shut up Duplex" over and over again. I warned him again to drop it and play the game. It was annoying everyone.

Next round, it's still going on. Tarquin started a votekick on Duplex for mic spamming. I said in admin chat, "He's not mic spamming. Anyone who continues to abuse votekick will be kicked."

This was the 3rd time that day I had ppl trying to abuse votekick on #2.

At this point, Tarquin proceeded to publicly argue and debate with me. I had already said the issue was over.

Map change: they continue this once again and I ask them to stop once again so others can play the game. Tarquin and 2 other players proceed to argue over the mic with me so I temp banned them to diffuse the situation. Duplex left to play on another server (I silently followed him to be sure he didn't cause trouble there) and #2 went back to playing the game.

The next day, one of the other players tried to votekick Duplex once again as soon as he saw him join the server. He also verbally attacked a regular for votekicking him afk earlier that day (and he was afk in spec for 10+ minutes). He repeatedly causes trouble and the next time I catch him, his ban will be longer. Tarquin made the unfortunate mistake of joining up with this guy on the night he got temp-banned.

All he had to do was shut up and let me handle it.

Regarding Duplex and me personally, he is a repeat offender and I treat him as such. He received a temp ban for saying "this team sucks; I don't think they know what they're doing". People say that every day and they don't get banned.

If DF decides he's trouble and wants to perma-ban him, then that is his decision to make. Until then, I have to treat him with the same level of fairness that everyone else gets. When he's getting votekicked before he's left spawn by a guy who repeatedly spams votekick on other people he doesn't like, then I have a problem with that.

Duplex may have a bad past but on this particular night, he was being harassed and griefed by 3 other players. Understanding that sometimes Duplex does things to ask for this type of treatment, I went lenient on the 3 players, giving them many warnings.

When they continued to disrupt the server, I got rid of them. Other than his temp ban and a verbal warning from me, I didn't do anything else to Duplex because he didn't do anything to warrant it. The situation had already been dealt with. Some other players chose not to let it go and for that, they were reprimanded as well.

Tarquin was upset that he got banned. It's understandable. Most people don't like to be banned from a server they enjoy playing on. But because he says the name "Half-Duplex", it becomes a big deal. If he had said "Billy Bob" or "Joe the Plumber", no one else would have replied to that thread like that.

Tarquin and Duplex are both asses.

Duplex is tolerable and for the most part never serious (I hope). Most of the regulars that don't like him just keep him on mute.

Tarquin is a racist and sexist. I've seen him rage multiple times on Goldrush and #2. I could be completely wrong about the guy but he sounds serious when he says what he does.

Either way it's up to DF and the admins if they stay or go. The rest of our opinions don't matter much.
