If you think you have a virus or spyware I recommend MalwareBytes program. It has taken almost every virus/spyware off a machine people have me look at. It has taken over spybot/avg for my favorite program. It is free, but you can pay $25 or something and it will give you real time protection. Really your best protection against that stuff is being smart. Also Avast is a pretty good real time virus protector that is free.

Unfortunately clamav has been pretty far behind most AVs for new virus signatures; I wouldn't even consider it a decent screen for an email server. The "best" AV seems to be overtaken every year by the people who research them, so the best thing to do is http://lmgtfy.com. I personally use AVG free, since I hate real-time scanning. I only use it to scan stuff that I download occasionally.

ESET NOD32 Anti-Virus, get one from Piratebay.

Isn't a memory hog, can't even tell it's there, and hasn't given me any troubles after using it for about half a year now.
