    Well I got on, and had a very good ping and experienced no adverse situations that could be attributed to malfunctions of the server or its software.

    make sure you have your steam download settings to 768k DSL or higher.

    i noticed that affected my ping and lag.

    Ya, that makes a difference. Alternatively, adjust your rate value in console. If you have a decent connection, no reason to use anything lower than 30000.
