No, it didn't occur to me to ask. I can still find out though.

As the current owner of the Searing Plasma KE in question (the only one too, pretty sure), this is unfortunate.

I did what anyone is supposed to do before buying a hat. Checked his steamrep, checked to see if it was duped or not. Stuff like that. I saw no flags in the trade, so I made 2 bids (first was outbid so I bid again to win).

I had never delt with Sluggy before, much less know of how he acquired the hat. He wasn't tagged in any form on SteamRep, and he was a "blue" donor on outpost (where I saw the hat advertised) so I used my best judgement based on that information that everything should be alright.

Anyways. I don't support sharking. I have never sharked anyone, and it's just as vile as stealing in my book. I don't have a dirty conscience of this, as I feel I am at no fault. But, I just want to state my involvement and set the record straight.

(I don't unusual trade much anyways, I've owned only about five overall and I usually just trade for what I like to wear. I'm not in this to make an assload of profit.)

I'm all against sharking, but this is a pretty shitty example. A couple of points.

    1. He didn't exactly get 1/4 of the hat. Granted, shadow paid 12 buds for it, but I and I think many others agree that at a pricecheck, they wouldn't place it so favorably; I think 9 is more realistic. This means he got 33% value of his hat. I've made trades similar to that, with people who knew exactly what the fuck they were doing; and it's also done on a regular basis with quicksells (good ones anyways), so while the profit margin is quite big, he still paid 3 full buds for it. That beings me to the second point.

    2. If the guy was willing to accept buds, then one of two things: a) he already knows about the unusual market and knew that buds were valuable, in which case the sharking thing is out the window and he's just inept at valuing, or b) this guy who traded him told him that buds were valuable (valuable enough for it somehow to be appealing for him to take 3 of the same hat, something a true noobie to the game would thing is odd), in which case he knew the items he had were worth real cash value. Either way, he knew that his hat had actual cash value, at which point he loses plea of ignorance because he is now fully responsible for learning more about this item he has before trading it. If I offer you what i tell you is the equivalent of a large sum of money for an item, you now should be and are capable of researching more into your item, and failure to do so is your own responsibility.

I'm not affiliated with the guy who 'sharked', nor do I care about the hat, but apply the term of shark more gingerly or it loses legitimacy.

I've seen a few cases (they used to be friends) where people have started sharking low value items, such as hats, to salvaged crates, to bills... Soon they'll be sharking buds and unusuals.

The sad thing about it, I can watch and listen to everything they're doing, but yet, I can do nothing about it.
