    i can think of all of 4 cars from the big 3 that i desire to own, and none of which i could afford. and none of which that if the time came where i could afford it, would it be practical at all to own.

    The last couple years have been a big of mini revolution in the production quality of American cars. IMO the last few years of American compacts and sedans have the same production quality and fuel efficiency of any import.
    My Saturn gets 35 mpg and hasn't broken down on me yet with 92k miles. (I know that's not A LOT but I bought it at 24k miles 4 years ago, still running strong)
