What my clan used to do, since we had a large group of members, was split our active squad into two teams (red & blue). The teams were divided so that all members agreed that the skill level was balanced on each side (what we're trying to do here). Each week, the two squads would hold a scrimmage against each other; the winning squad got to play in the league match representing our team. It was a fair method that all our members accepted; everyone had an equal opportunity of being the "Gold" team for the week.

Also, I'm still confused on the tournament structure, but as far as teams are concerned, I believe we should continue doing what Frost has set forth. Let's continue dividing the server up as best as possible so that most, if not all, can agree on the skill balance and fairness of each team.

If we do want to have an "Optimal" team represent the Gold Rush Server, have each GR team scrimmage against each other. Whichever GR team wins is essentially the "Optimal" team for the GR server.

Personally, I don't mind if I'm on the A team or the C team, but I'm worried that there may be some participants or regulars that are concerned if they make the cut for the "Gold" team. What made a lot of members unhappy in my clan (and a few quit), was when we ultimately made a set-"Gold" squad.

Like I said, just an idea.

Though I agree with your idea with the scrimmage and the whole result of doing the "gold" team; I wouldnt say that doing the teams in a random draft method would really result in an optimal team. In the 90's, the Bulls were a powerhouse in the NBA, but they were exactly the "dream" team. Thats why you had the dream team in the olympics and the all star games every year. If you seen my other threads, you should know, or at least what I was trying to make a point of, was that I did not want to exclude any of the regulars and did not like how the tournament was going to a more competitive feel.

The whole draft thing seems fun, and I think it would be nice to change up the teams again later on with a new draft so we can all hopefully play with the other group. But I would say this, if people are also all for a "dream" team scenario, I am also all for it and support the players in it. And though I have been placed in that type of team by a few posts earlier is not why I would support it since I been really off my game the last week or so, therefore I'm not even sure if I even deserve a spot right now.

Haha. Keep in mind that you on your "off days" still rack in twice as many points as the rest of us.

I agree, Sups. I don't believe a systematic draft would result in an optimal, all-star team either. But since we have so many participants of varying skill levels, and since this is supposed to be a public, fun tournament, I figured this method would be one way of allowing every participant an equal chance of representing the server.

Alternatively, if we just want to focus on beating the other servers, once we know the player limit, people can just independently pick and create their own teams (non-draft style) and then we scrimmage from there. For example: Frost quickly messages Sups, Spam, etc. and they all agree to be on his team - and that's one Gold Rush server team. Obviously, that team is likely to be composed of all the top players, so the other Gold Rush teams would be at a disadvantage, and I doubt they'd have as much enthusiasm about participating if they know they're ultimately going to lose.

yea, this tourney is supposed to be more fun than it is competitive

but for some reason there's a real serious tone about it.

WATCH OUT FOR TAUNT KILLS BTW.

i didn't think the purpose was to make a "dream team" because that is the exact reason i suggest the "fatkid" method was because it was going to be all the top players on sourceOP to the really good players, then the decent players. where the games are clearly seeded. Like you can say whatever about the dream team if you think your going to be on it, but i have no desire to participate in a competition that im going to be purely c team that has almost no chance of winning, thats just going to get absolutly obliterated. Thats dumb, the reason the draft is done the way it is in sports is to try to keep teams balanced. It does work, and since we are only doing one tournament, its not like there is one organized team that can buy out every great player from other team. (NO YANKEES!). Again if the tournament is going to be the SourceOP "Dream Team" from goldrush vs SourceOP "Dream Team" from Valve Maps #1. then i have no desire to compete against either squad without having the rest of my clan there that doesn't ever play on sourceOP. I know i might get the typical troll response of "IF YOU DON'T WANT TO COMPETE THEN DON'T COMPETE" but im just voicing my opinion on the matter and i couldn't be the only person that feels this way.
