half life 2 is one of the best games ever made:
-no better physics engine since or before
-impeccable AI
-mature storyline, blending dystopian and horror elements into a complex science fiction
-constant scenario changes, constant scenery changes, never a dull moment
-gravity gun
The amount thats been accomplished with that game engine amazes me.
But that's just my opinion.
