PLEASE give me a free buds
#1

Ok, so one of the perks of having done an ungodly amount of tf2 trading is that you accumulate alot of cool stuff. Its nice to have nearly every paint, weapon, hat and any strange you desire at your disposal. After having gone through countless trades canceled over a reclaimed or less you finally are living the TF2 dream of owning a god tier unusual + enough sweets to make a child toothless . Then the panhandlers start hitting you up.

Panhandler #1: OMG You have so much cool stuff.
Me: Yeah...took long enough...you'll get there eventually if you play long enough.
Panhandler #1: Oh you have multiple bills and buds, can I have one?
Me: Took too long to get those things, I got lots of spare weps, I can get you one of those as I see you're not a F2P. (The cheap bastards wont get a single thing from me)
Panhandler #1: I dont want a weapon, I'd like a bud. Come on, PLEASE.
Me: Had I given out buds every time someone asked me politely I wouldn't have any. Besides, I'm not in the habit of giving out that much, even too really close friends
Panhandler #1: Ok, what can you give me besides a weapon.

Trade has been canceled. 10 seconds later. Panhandler #1 is requesting a trade. DECLINE.

Panhandler #2: O hi I'd like to buy an unusual from you or some buds.
Me: Ok, what's your offer?
Panhandler #2: I got this rare vintage fosters facade and vintage sanvich+3 uncraftable hats.
Me: Sorry, thats only worth maybe a couple refined. Buds and unusuals are worth many many refined metals.
Panhandler #2: Please...Ill throw in my strange eyelander. I know that's valuable and its my favorite. I spend a key and crate getting it.
Me: Took me too long to get. If you'd like, I can advise you on some trades and help you build some wealth. I have helped others do well trading.
Panhandler #2: Trading takes too long, I just want some buds. I will be SO happy. If I had all your stuff I would.
Me: Hey, I have a friend that just started and only has 2 weapons. He woudl be thrilled to get one of those uncraftable hats. Think you could give it to him?
Panhandler #2: Um,, if you give me the buds or unusual I will Big Grin
Me: Well compared to him you have more stuff than him, he'd be thrilled to get his first hat.
Panhandler #2: If I had more stuff I would.
Me: I can send you his profile and when you get more stuff you can send him a hat
Panhandler #2: no thanks, I just want buds

Trade canceled.

Here's the TL;DR version:

Being offered something free than asking for more is a losing strategy.

If you were rich and had to bust your ass getting there, you wouldn't be generous either. And even the poor is greedy with their items.

Yeah I'm sure if you got an epic backpack for free it'd be easy to hand out buds or bills or other hats out to people, maybe even strangers, but if you had to wait around and argue and deal with 100's of lowballers trying to manipulate you, then you're gonna be a lil more guarded with your stuff. Same thing with real life. Its easy to hand out money when you're born rich; not so much when you had to go to college, work under asshole bosses and grind your way to a decent living.

I get that a lot with Unusuals.

I'll be in a Server, when some GibusPlayer will see my double-Unusuals, pause in place for 10 seconds, then I'll get a Trade Invite

Usually goes like this:

Him: hey man cool hats :D
Me: Thanks!
Him: wow you must be rich to have those lol
Me: Haha, not really. I only spent at most 20 dollars in this Game.
Him: wow thats cool
Him: can i have free hats since your rich? LOL!
Me: Sorry, I usually don't give stuff away.
Him: but i just want 1 :( you probably have 10000..
Me: Don't worry, 1 day you'll find a Hat and you'll be so excited!
Him: ya but i want one from you :( can i atleast borrow or have 1 of ur unusuals? :D

-Cancels Trade-

Him (In Game Chat): wow no need to be a stuck up dick about it :/

Man I don't know you can be so nice to these people. I just tell them to fuck off.

Just depends on my mood. Sometimes I do tell them to go fuck themselves but then that wouldn't make for much of a post. I'm usually pretty talkative and in a decent mood so I'll go on and on til they give up usually. Back when I was trying to get my first good unusual, I wasn't as friendly. Now that I got basically what I wanted, I dont mind explaining the intricacies of the tf2 manconomy. Some people I've helped have done quite well for themselves and ofcourse, it's nice when I do get recognition and the occasional gift of stuff. Best gift was painted bills+numerous keys. Though ofcourse some people are just vampires and just want to take take take. Idk, I think part of me just wants to change their faulty cognitions too.

I like giving gifts to my friends, but the worst thing is when you accidentally give a friend something valuable in a public server. Once I let a friend borrow a max head and after the trade popped up in chat, trade requests flooded in begging for free stuff.
