Major Disappointment. Multiple plot holes, major plot induced stupidity by multiple characters, and bad pacing.
Don't bother.

The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth becomes the greatest enemy of the State.
I think the audience they're aiming for won't give a shit.
Hahaha, I'm actually gettin ready to leave to go see it
EDIT:
Well, just got back from the theater.
Adder, I totally disagree. In fact, now that I look at this thread title and it's context....it kinda pisses me off.
Yeah there were plot holes, but definitely NOT to an extent of it ruining the movie. It gives the viewer room for imagination.
Michael Fassbender did an amazing job. The other actors did great aswell. And visually speaking......wow, so awesome.
I love the way Ridley Scott directs, he did an outstanding job in this. The suspense/moments of chaos.....I definitely got that feel as when I watched moments of Alien.
If you're even slightly interested in seeing this, go see it. "Major disappointment' my fucking ass. I'm an enormous fan of Alien/Aliens and I think it does the franchise well. Can't wait till this comes out on Blu-Ray!
Go see it if you like Sci-Fi. Visually one of the best out there since Avatar, with that I must say I was disapointed and can relate to OP's frustrations over plot holes. The script was weak and lazy. Things happened just to happen so we can get to the next scene. All the characters (except David) were meh, even Dr. Shaw.
visuals 10/10
film as a whole 7/10
***SPOILER***
The questions posed by the movie "Where do we come from? Who made us? How did we get here? Is there a God?" was never even answered. In fact all it did was give us more questions. So what is the point of the movie if none of the questions were answered?
The engineers were never confirmed to be our makers. The opening scene although one of the most breath taking visuals in film was lacking any kind of structure. Was it earth or wasn't it? Was that the beginning of humanity? We don't know because it was never mentioned again. Was that round space ship full of engineers? Maybe, but it doesn't look anything like the other boomerang looking space ships from LV223. So could the engineers have been engineered by other alien races? Maybe.
Why are the two male scientists who ran away so stupid for their profession. No scientist in their right mind would pet a hissing alien cobra.
Why the hell would the engineers go through all that trouble to leave us a map in so many remote regions of the world, thousands of years apart...just so they can kill those who actually make it out there? WTF.
If I was a billionaire like Weyland and I was going to visit some alien world, I would hire about 50 armed soldiers. Then I would have them capture the engineers, not go meet one myself face to face with unarmed.
The evolutions of the aliens are all screwed up. The black goo in the opening scene dissolves the engineer after he drinks it. That goo when ingested by Hollister turns him all vein like and he just dies, did not dissolve. That ingested goo by Hollister gets Shaw impregnated and she gives birth to a giant face hugger. That face hugger lays an egg in an engineer and we get a xenomorph. Oh, and that same goo mutates those earth worm things and turns them into vagina worms, who then turned one of the scientists into a zombie.
There are so many more lazy story telling in this movie, I just can't remember them all.

Ridley Scott confirmed in an interview that the opening scene was supposed to be an engineer killing himself and his DNA seeding the earth to start life.
Easily the most infuriating plot hole that I can think of was the fact that the chick had the alien removed from her body, and DIDN'T TELL ANYONE THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE REST OF THE MOVIE. Any chance I was trying to give the movie at that point flew out the window.
Visually the special effects were impressive, yes, but the story itself ruins the experience.

Honestly, most people probably wouldn't say anything if it actually happened to them for fear of them getting forced into quarantine/killed. If it was me I probably would've told the black captain because he was in my opinion the most trustworthy/understanding, so I'd just get his help to go back in that room to kill that thing.Originally Posted by Adder
If a sequel were to come out and said sequel answered all of the above questions...wouldn't that make Prometheus irrelevant?
I'm sorry Mike, the movie was just horribly written. Now I know why I hated Lost so much. I never understood everyone's love for Lost, to me it was just lazy sloppy writing. Lindelof or however you spell his name did the same thing for this script. There are just so many examples of laziness I can't even list them all.
So here's just one:
Earlier in the movie these two characters were scared shitless over an ancient alien corpse. That is fine. They are scientist and it is smart to fear the unknown and question potential risks factors.
These same scientists go wandering off and got lost. They circle back around to the same room they were so scared of earlier. The same room they refused to enter when they had four other people with them. This time there's only two of them and they are miraculously not scared. While looking around, they run into a scary vagina cobra-like LIVING ALIEN and they call it baby and want to pet it? WTF? This completely goes against the characters that they were established as. One minute they don't want anything to do with aliens, they are terrified by the reality of aliens, and then the next minute they act like they are at a petting zoo. This is the kind of sloppy writing with zero attention to character that I'd expect from a Uwe Boll horror movie.
Not only does it go against their character, it is one of those cliche "ridiculously stupid character moments" b-grade horror films are known for & ridiculed over. The characters in the original Alien were smart, and they reacted to their situation in a realistic manner. You liked them, and related to them, because they did not insult the audience. In Prometheus the characters are simply morons.
