    Stock heatsinks

What in the fuck is wrong with them, seriously. You pay 300$ for a processor and they give you some 12$ piece of shit that is designed to look cool over being functional?! Who do they think they are?

Now I have always been a fan of aftermarket heat-sinks, but I have never actually switched to one after using a stock. I overclocked my Q6600 enough that it was pushing 85°c, which is alright, a bit hard on it, but acceptable. I have had this Zalman sitting around for a few years and never really used it in the last couple years, because I didn't have the bracket to use it on my LGA775 socket. Anyway, my freind was rebuilding a computer out of a dell rig and needed a heatsink so I sold him my stock one for the price of the bracket I needed (zalman is nice enough to sell these aftermarket). I get the thing all gelled up, clamp it on and checked my temp.

23°c!!!!! AND THIS IS AT 1300 RPM!!! THIS FUCKER WILL PUSH 2200!!!

What is that shit?! You use a 40$ heatsink and increase proficiency by almost 400%!?!? Why don't they ship with these? They can call the processors something like SUPER INTEL EXTREME QUAD DUO and ship it overclocked to shit, and up-charge the processor like 800$

What do they make the stock heatsinks out of, Aerogel?

TLDR: If you are using a stock heatsink, throw it in the fucking garbage and buy a zalman.

I'm not saying you didn't, but did you take into account that when you changed over the fans you did in fact re-gel it? I have no idea how often you do this but it does decrease the CPU temp initially.

Obviously the gel's not the whole reason but a contributor. The fan of course does make the biggest difference in your case; I was just wondering.

So... do you actually contribute anything, or do you just bitch about me?

Yeah, I re-seated the original heatsink about 5 times thinking the same thing, each time using more or less thermal compound, made a very negligible difference (it actually did worse in the times where I used too much)
