Eh.
I don't think stats are all that interesting, if any one cares at this point in the discussion. After plowing through a decent amount of people, which is fairly rare for me .. heh, then getting blown up and noticing I just lost 25 points. /shrug
Whe'ver. I've checked the stats once, at the time I was around 600. I don't anticipate getting very much higher as I don't feel my skill level is up to a lot of players here. Though, I can't say I care too much. I come here because its fun. No custom maps, default settings and a good mix of skill levels to play against. I'm rarely bored playing in the server and that's a great thing. I just checked the stats for the first time since then and it appears to be down. Can't say I care too much.
I think we all come to the server for different reasons. Some people like the stats and love to see how they are progressing in the server. I was much this mind set way back in my CS days. Used to pride myself in topping the server in odd weapon kills like the Mac-10 or 5-7. It is nice to see your name at the top and receive a little fame for it, even if its all in your head. I don't believe they are seriously damaging any team to the point where the entire team is losing because of them. If it helps your mindset, perhaps just think of them as a noob that knows no better. I would imagine anyone worried about their stats would be a higher skill level than a noob as it were anyway. A player concerned about getting a lot of kills is still a player scoring a lot of kills. I don't see how that's a bad thing.
Some times I'm not terribly in the team-playing mind set and just want to kill people ... so .. I'll soldier on and just dumb-down my mind. Sure, TF2 is about team play and all, but its still a game and it's supposed to be fun. I don't personally care about stats, but I imagine they are part of the reason the server has as many players as it does. Certainly not the only reason or maybe even a large reason ... but I can't dismiss it completely. I know there are a few that come here specifically for that reason. I enjoy killing or playing with familiar faces. If one of those people happen to be 'all about' their stats, more power to em. I would hate to see them leave if that was their reason for going to the server.
In that long ass winded post that kind of ran around in circles, I imagine setting it to not advertise the stats would be the best course of action. Would eliminate the spam and the people that don't enjoy the stats can ignore the whole issues easier. Like they say, out of sight, out of mind.
I did find it kinda funny that the weapon I got the most kills with was the syringe gun (least, when I checked the first time). Tee-hee.
