I think there have been a number of suggestions that didn't involve removing hlstatsx completely.
I liked Naquadria's idea:
"Should just have stats sent to the site where they can check them later."
And I don't get why this would have to be a discussion about any kind of uni-lateral change. But maybe just for ideas or testing.
As for the people who worked so hard obtain stats, I figure their playing the wrong game. Good stats should be a side effect of good play, but never an end in and of itself.
As a side note, in reference to Naquadria's suggestion to collect hlstatsx web stats without ingame notices: wouldn't this be a good way to increase visitors here and maybe even participation on the board?
As it is stats are totally integrated into the game experience with some people taking the time to visit the sourceop page at hlstatsx. Why not embed the stats page into the site here and let people view all the stats they want outside of the game and while visiting the site here. And god-forbid, maybe participating.
That sounds like a win-win.
