hahaha snarf... never really researched how they actually get hijacked onto ppl's computer? most is thru browser hijacks with incorporated stuff via a "trusted" site's page. And by the new ways they do this, the antivirus wont cover all the holes. Blocking the known sites, plugins etc, prevents those sites to link you thru to another site on which more harmfull stuff can be found. Most of that stuff is not "marked" by the antivirus cos in themselves they are not harmfull. Its the stuff that they pull in and try to let you click on etc.

I could find you easily a bunch of links that infest you withing seconds (have a look in the MVPS hosts file, a bunch have nice descriptions of what they hack you with). I wont link 'm here cos I don't want others to be infected. When I go to those, all I see is a white page with a message: blocked *sitename here*
You on the other hand would get infected big time without such. Sure, your antivirus will prevent some, the others will disable your antivirus and make your computer part of one or more of the "drone networks".

And all it would need, is one of your favorite sites to have a little spot linked to one of those sites, so your browser will load that and it gets on your computer. I would just see white spots with "blocked: blah blah".

Sure new sites like those come up everyday and the list grows every time it gets updated. and yes, a lot are "just" advertizing sites... but those often get infected (remember tf2wiki ? ) They specifically target those sites for their stuff, cos it gets included on all those sites running ads. Handy side-effect is that I dont see much ads... cant complain.
